Hi all!

I own a hair salon at the moment which is going better than we hoped for after 2 years!

My landlord has offered us more space which also includes an upstairs which is fantastic as I now have the space to offer my clients beauty! I am so excited as this is what I've always wanted so want to get this right!

I would be ever so greatful if I could ask the experienced beauticians on here some important questions regarding stock and services!

The services I wish to provide are nails, eyebrows, massage and facials.

1. Which are the best brands on the market at the moment? Nail brands, skincare brands and wax brands?
2. Are there any other services you feel can compliment a hairdressers that I have missed out?
3. I am going to employ a beautician but am unsure of hourly rate/commission?
4. Essentials for a beauty bed and manicure desk? (Electric or hydraulic etc)

Thank you so much in advance and I appreciate the time you take to reply!

Hi,
Firstly congratulations on the relaunch! Secondly what i wish to ask you is do you have a website in place? That will really help you when you are marketing you know . A simple website with an online booking app will draw more customers in.

Think about this once you have decided upon the beauticians.
Here is our website:
www.softwareassociates.co.uk or just private message me.

Hi Dilna,

Thank you for your response. We already have an online booking system that we are very happy with. Thank you again

oooh how exciting!

So before i bombard you with questions.
You have to ask yourself; What kind of service do you want to offer?

Are you going to do everything or concentrate on a few bits and bobs?

Look at what will be your unique selling point and do some research around you regards to brands/ pricing. Also look at doing some of the training yourself(certain brands give you product knowledge), and perhaps getting more of an idea to what is entailed in each treatment service so you can control stock levels.

Look at perhaps having 2 part time therapists instead of one and you wont have all your eggs in one basket.

Look at contracts, obligations incentives holidays there is a load of things legally that you want to make sure your covered with, incase say therapist is trained up and leaves within a year, will they pay back what you may have paid out for courses etc.

Finally go to the beauty shows, every brand under one roof, gives you some thinking room on what you want, also they have equipment there that you can try out. plus you will get some great show offers too! good luck xoxo

Thank you for all of your advice!

May I ask why you recommended two part time therapists instead of one? If they are part time aren't they more likely to take clients and work "on the side"?

Our hair salon is very shabby chic and we do very modern colours and cuts. Our client range is from 18-65 so something that is for everyone :)

I feel microdermabrasion would be better than facials as it offers something that can't really be replicated at home or am I wrong?

It's your choice on how many staff you have but its good to have yourself covered in any given situation. In cases of cover, emergency's, cancellations, double bookings. For instance one doing an ebw the other might be better at facials, it gives you flexibility and if you have the additional space to accommodate it. This way you have the right members of staff but it also lets the other back you up with the retail side of things too.

How many treatment rooms will you have?

I'll only be having one treatment room. We're in a small town so I know our clients will be OK with the therapist having holiday and time off etc.

I've been researching ALL day and the products that stand out to me (plus I've called a lot of company's and they won't let me have certain brands due to not being a therapist which is a bit annoying) so I've got it down to IBD or Ink London for nails and either Kaeco or Muno for skincare?

Advice please?

You are always welcome!

So I have decided...

Kaeso skincare products: I feel this is within my clients budget and have heard some good reviews :) I also don't feel skincare will be hugely popular so don't want to spend a fortune on "dead stock"

Ink Nails London: Again, heard great reviews and have a sample kit on its way to me. Plus the customer service was fantastic!

Question about tanning:
What do I need to have in the treatment room to accommodate tanning as a service? Is a pop up tent good enough?

Thank you!
