I completely understand how anxious you are.i was only feeling like this yesterday.Iv been confidently waxing for about 9 years now and it actually happened a few times this week.I actually did cry! To be honest, the fact that your even on this site shows how professional you are and how much you care about your clients.
I spoke to the lycon specialist in my area and she advised that sometimes these things happen and it's not even our fault as therapists.it could depend on a number of things, clients seem to be more sensitive in the winter too.and the fact that she's just had a baby is saying her body is going through a lot of hormonal changes.don't beat yourself up.it will be fine

Another thing the lycon specialist said to me was to only use hot wax on the eyebrow area.use a film of oil before you wax and that creates a barrier for the skin.I did it all day today at work.its a little more time consuming but she said it's nearly impossible to ever graze someone with it.

Sorry for the late reply I struggle to remember my password for this site!! Thank you for your reply. It is reassuring and the comments made regarding the hot wax is interesting and seems to be the thing now. Xx

I always ask my clients before a wax are they taking any skin meds or facial treatments. Birth control or new facial soaps can cause the skin to thin and what happened was you gave her a skin tear. Sometimes you can add a bit of oil to the skin and it won't happen again ! Happy waxing

What kind of oil should you use ? Or could you use talc ? Xxxx

I always use the lycon pre wax oil as it creates a barrier between the skin and the wax.but only when using hot wax on the brows.if you have to use strip wax on the brows I use a layer of talc and really stretch the skin as well try not to press too hard on the wax strip as well.using hot wax on the brows is a bit trickier but you will defo get used to it,like anything else practice makes perfect! You will never have a problem with a graze when using hot wax.it's definitely safer! I noticed that these grazes seem to happen more in the winter when people's skin is more dry and sensitive.it's not always your own fault x

I done this to myself hehe. I had change some medication, couple of months later decided to do brow wax. As soon as I took the wax off it was sore, but it wasn't till a couple of hours later it was red and sore. The next morning it started scabbing, within a week it was gone. Ive been waxing for years, so yes it can happen to anyone anytime.

I was told at college not to use talc above bikini incase the client has asthma, COPD etc. But I spose you could if you know the client doesn't have any breathing problems...I personally wouldn't risk it and use pre wax lotions x

That's why I always use pre and post wax treatment out of precaution and hasn't done me wrong through the years. That is my WORST nightmare!

This happened to me yesterday even though I had several eyebrow waxes in through the day and the wax was set at the same temp all day. This happened to nobody else! Even her sister had a treatment 30 minutes before and nothing happened to her. I work as a franchise in a holiday resort so an accident report form was filled out and I took pictures of the girls eyebrow area as it had grazed. Her mother was very aggressive and a bully, called me names and told me I had butchered her daughters face. I tried to ask my client if she has used any medication or skin treatments as I noticed she had a teenagers skin (pimples under the skin) I noticed the skin was very dry but not around the brow area, she advised me that she had regular waxing every 2 weeks on the brows when asked she never said about using anything creams or spot treatments or medication but I think she was not telling me the truth. She reacted about 15 minutes after the treatment and I offered her aftercare advice and her mother now wants my insurance details. I did ring my insurance to get some advice but still waiting for a phone call back!? Is this normal? What do I do!?

Wait for your insurance to phone. They can advise best x

Your insurance is to cover you. The client does not need their details. If she wanted to pursue a claim she claims against the salon (or you if you are self employed) and then you pass on the paperwork to the insurer to deal with.

How old was the client? She's the one who needs to claim, not her mother.

I've just started waxing again after 3 years now.. and I thought I'd wax my arms tonight then this happened I haven't waxed or shaved my arms in months.. im bad at moisturizing and exfoliating.. I'm wondering if being on a vlcd diet has caused it .. or just having the hair removed after a long time
