Hi geeks!! I have a question about hair damage. My clients hair is a natural base of a 6 and has always had koleston perfect 12/1 +40 vol to touch up her roots every 6 weeks and occasionally I have put a 10/1 + pastel toner all over to remove unwanted yellow tones.

The past few times I have coloured her hair she has complained about a frazzled fringe which with whatever product we use just keeps getting shorter at the side.

This is only a recent thing, we have been using the same colours for 4 years now and am confused as to why this is happening?

Is it something I am doing wrong or is it just the way she is looking after her hair? The only thing we can think of that has changed recently is her medication, does medication affect hair?

Of course medication affects hair!! Even the amount of water you drink affects your hair!! Everything you do, eat, tablets even going on a plane affects your hair, maybe drop down to a 10/1 for all over colour and get her on deep treatments all over :) specially the fringe.

hi hon yes there are a lot of medications that can affect the condition of hair, though you would tend to find it is not just one area that would be affected.

is she straightening her hair often and holding heat over it for a prolonged time or being over-zelous with brushing? does she pull it back/use a poor quality hair pin that could be damaging it? or are you pulling colour through to the ends of the hair at this area?

just a few suggestions! hth x

She has not put heat on it for months as I have advised her not to. When I apply the colour to the hair I always leave the fringe until the very end so it has the least development time and am very careful not to overlap atall in this area but am confused because I thought if it was medication affecting the hair then why is it not damaged everywhere? It isnt split atall just looks singed?

hmmm not sure then, medication can affect hair in many ways, breakage, loss, drying, but tends to be the whole head and not singed looking?! hope someone else can help!

Every piece of hair should be allowed to develop for 50mins minimum with high lift no less, I know wella have been reforms laying their hi lifts so this could be why

What do you mean by reforms?
