Hello all :)

My name is Nikki Spencer :) I've previously studied beauty therapy; however i'm more interested in the make-up side of things. I do currently work outside of the beauty industry but only part time hours so have a lot of spare time. I was thinking of going freelance make-up artist; i've spoke to a few friends and family who have offered to let me do their make-up to build up my portfolio; i've also started a blog to track my efforts, ordered some business cards and made a facebook page promotioning my services. I just thought i'd ask if anyone has any reccomendations on getting started/good brands to use when first getting started? :)

Thanks all, look forward to hearing from you all.
Niks :) x

Hi Nikki
A lot of people have asked this in the past, and you will get a lot of different answers. I took on Jane Iredale mineral make up many years ago, and haven't regretted it. I do a fair amount of weddings, and have enough base colours to suit every skin type. I cannot rate them highly enough. My sister also works with Jane Iredale products and has been really happy with them. We both retail a lot, and it really is skincare make up. No aggravants that can often be found in some mineral make ups. Good luck!

hi nikki i use sothys as its not a cheap brand that put any old ingredients in their a skincare company who have made make up with skincare ingredients to help fix and look after your skin they do a like make up box which i think if ican remember is about £200 plus vat but that has all the foundations the 3 different skin types all the lipsticks etc everything! and all my clients love it as it enhances there faces but they don't get rashes or spotsafter using it like they did with mac and elizabeth arden products

I don't stock any one brand, I have a make up kit of all sorts, some unheard of, some high street, some dead cheap stuff (after I had to work with cheap make up at the clothes show and then realised some of it wasn't so bad!)
I came to realise that clients like products they have heard of that they can get easily themselves, such as max factor, benefit etc
Hth

hi
im the same as above use lots of different brands mainly mac bobbi brown artdeco etc although i have just completed the airbase training and found that brill but need to trail airbase which is silicone based to some other brands that are water based to see which i prefer but love the whole airbrush gun system for foundation and blush. Also number 7 green base is good for redness and a budget brand dont rate their ither make up as like mac eye shadows and bb etc, try going to big department stores and see if you can get some samples, etc.xx

Hi all, I took on Jane Iredale Mineral make-up 2years ago and wished I'd done it right from when I set up my business 6 years ago, their support, training and products from the distributed (iiaa) is fantastic. A large portion of my business is make-ups for parties, proms or weddings and the make-uo photographs really well! Also their opening order is fairly low compared with some! Hope this helps!

Sorry to jump on your thread but I'm thinking of taking on Art Deco in my salon and I've been looking around for about a year at all different company's but keep coming back to artdeco! Saw them at the beauty show in London last month and all the products are lovely.
If I wanted to order a full make up stand including retail for my salon how long would it take to be delivered as our next big wedding make is in 5 weeks time to starting to hope I've not left it too late?!

Artdeco is readily available on offer at Beautybay http://www.beautybay.com/artdeco/ or at Chleo in Dublin.
