Did a lady a few days ago and texted her to see how it was, she said her arms and legs are a bit blotchy, I am horrified!!

I AM new to spray tanning, but I've done a dozen others and they've all been lovely

This lady said she had exfoliated. She has had lots of spray tans before. I wonder what I did wrong? Am sure I covered all areas.

We talked through all the stuff like avoiding water and oil based moisurisers (btw can anyone recommend a high street oil free one?) so I really don't know what's happened.#

Had to unexpectedly go to hospital with my daughter yesterday but I was going to ring my client and ask her to pop and see me. By the time she can next come it will be tomorrow night, don't know if it will be worth it from last thursday

What do you think?

It could be that she had reside left on her skin from body lotion or something or maybe from the exfoliator she used. I've had problems in the past with clients using body scrubs containing moisturisers or oil leaving a residue on the skin and acting as a barrier in places. I now advise clients to exfoliate using mitts or a rough flannel with a clear shower gel or soap as these will not leave a residue.
I've read comments from afew spray tanners on here who will contact their clients asking how their tans are. Why do u do this? During training we were advised never to do this as it shows a lack of confidence. If there is a problem that they are really not happy with they will contact you. If they liked it then they will rebook or recommended you to others.
Just any basic moisturiser will be fine as long as they stay away from dove, baby oil and the dry oil sprays.

Thanks for that advice about the exfoliating. Sounds a good idea indeed!

You are right it is definitely lack of confidence that made me enquire but as all the others I have done had been really really pleased, I guess I was just hoping for another success story lol!!

Also I would rather they tell me and give me perhaps the opportunity to put it right rather than just go and spread the word that I'm rubbish and never hear from them again.

I'd still like to have a look at her but after 5 days I don't know if it's worth it.

I might be a little late in replying but I've just started out too in spray tanning and my tutor told me just to make sure you do check over the whole body throughly under good light and maybe ask the client to take a look at themselves and ask them if there's any bits they would like you to go over before they leave, that way it saves time for you or the customer to have to go back then :)

I haven't had a complaint yet but I'm dreading the day it happens too! Which hopefully will be NEVER!

Have spoken to her on the phone and she agrees there weren't any missed bits!

She did add that her arms and legs are VERY dry and shedoesn't usually exfoliate, just did it the once for the spray tan

Could it be that she had like a build up of dry skin on some areas which would have probably needed more than one exfoliation?

I have dry skin on my legs and they always go patchy when I have a spray tan lol. When I am spraying somone else you can quite often see the dry areas I point them out and tell them if they dont moisturise loads it will go patchy xxx

Thanks cabby, what do you tell them to moisturise with?

Hello Blossom hun, I advice my clients to moisturise with Aqueous Cream. It's available cheaply but is a fantastic moisturiser. Your clients don't then feel as they have to spend lots on aftercare using a specific brand. I also use this as a barrier cream before hand.

I am sure others will also give you other options too :)

Doesn't Aqueous Cream contain paraffin oils?

I don't know of any highstreet ones, blossom. I (obviously) use Fresh Indulgence oil-free moisturiser, which you can get trade pricing on.

Did you use any prep spray on your client? I would always recommend this.

I use Tesco's own Coco butter after my tans and tell my clients to use the same, I have really dry skin but find its perfect to keep my tan even, its non greasy and best of all its cheap

:Love:Aqueous cream can be used as a soap in the bath/shower...as advised by Doc for little ones' sensitive skin

It does contain paraffin oils but have never had any problems with it as of yet. Some do advise to avoid 'man made' oils, some highly recommend natural oil based creams, others recommend avoiding oils completely.

Trial and error and personal preference are my thoughts x

Did you just do one covering or did you do 2 coverings. I always do 2 to make sure I get it as even as possible, never had any complaints yet.
