Hi,

I am not currently a hair geek. But I plan on going back to college next year to start my NVQ 2 in hairdressing once I've had my baby.

I was thinking of adding hair extension's, and have seen from what information my college have given out they don't offer this was going to go with a private company sort of thing.

I have recently liked a page on Facebook of someone who offers hair extensions. This person is now offering a course, can she do this? As she can not give a certificate once you have completed the course.

I was going to book with her but if there is no certificate I surely will not be covered with my insurance company.

I think I will be best off waiting till I start college next year and they can recommend a company

Looking forward to your views :) xx

Lots of unqualified people are getting into hair extensions as they think there's money to be made.

Sadly, until the UK regulates the hair & beauty industry, these people will continue to ply their trade and rip students and clients off.

You won't be able to get insurance unless the course is accredited by a reputable source, such as habia etc. Habia generally don't accredit private academies but they still accredit local authority run college hairdressing courses. (You usually cover hair extensions in level 3).

There are a few good quality private training establishments and if you spend some time searching these threads, you will find geeks recommending them.

Also, if you find a suitable course, don't just take their word about being covered by insurance. Ring the insurance company direct and check for yourself, otherwise, you may find you have a worthless qualification and have to retrain from scratch.

Enjoy your hairdressing studies. ;)
