New research published by Mintel has revealed that sales of temporary hair colour have tripled in the year to October 2014. The value of these take-home products has risen from £1million to £3million and looks set to continue growing.
The boost can partly be explained by the celebrity-inspired trends - people such as Katy Perry, Kylie Jenner and Helen Mirren have all sported temporary shades - but it can also be attributed to people remaining careful with money following tough financial times. In addition, the sector itself has also grown to include more than just browns, blondes and reds developing a more "experimental nature" adding to its success.
Speaking of the trend, senior personal care analyst, Roshida Khanom said, "New colouring techniques such as hair chalks appeal to young people, allowing them to follow current fashion trends, and the rising popularity of temporary colour products shows a consumer desire for flexibility to change the colour of their hair as they wish."
This fashion for temporary hair colour is in stark contrast to that for total hair colourant sales which have declined 5% in the same twelve months.
Until then...geek on!
