Hi there, I have just purchased some hard builder gel but have realised this isn't a soak off gel but a file off, I don't own an e file as I don't like to use them and haven't been trained, therefor how do I go about removing them when needed? I am a qualified nail tech ( newly qualified) can I use an 80 grit file to remove them or will this be really time consuming and worth getting an e file and paying to train? ( an expense I could do without at the moment) if anyone has any tips on best way to go about this without the use of an e file I would be so grateful. Many thanks

Ok first off you should not need to file off the gel every time . There is no need to do that . You will just be 'rebalancing ' so just removing bulk and then reapplying . I only use an e file to remove ( most of ) the colour gel from my ladies then as soon as that is done i use either a 100 or 80 grit file to take down bulk changing to 180 grit to refine . You should not be touching the natural nail with these files so will be perfectly ok to use harsher grit

Why do you think you need to remove all the gel each time?

Hi, thanka, I'm not on about removing everytime but when someone wants a removal I'm hoping to not use an e file. Hence not wanting to spend a lot for training and buying one etc. That's why I was going people had tips on just using a hand file for those clients that want a break from hard gel and extensions etc.

Ah Ok . I have only had to do this on a very few occasions . If someone wants a 'break ' for whatever reasons the best thing to do is just file down to a very thin layer . You do NOT need to remove it all . Just thin out then use buffing block to smooth and then cuticle oil. The remaining gel will then just 'grow ' out and not be noticeable at all. You still should not need to use an 80 grit . If you do then they are too thick ;)

Use a 100 grit to quickly remove bulk then change down to 240 and then buffer block
