Gosh trawling through all the threads I'm amazed by how many are to do with nail art ie glitters, additives embellishing etc etc etc etc, is this a required add on now do you think?
I am rubbish at nail art I'm ok at using glitter but all the rest well it's blowing my mind
But I also don't really want to see nail art on nails !
When ever I've done a lovely set of nails and then someone asks for nail art I'm a bit like" pardon me!??"

I feel it's a bit like doing an hour long brush blow dry and then someone placing a bobble hat on!?!
Am I just so far out of touch in the nail world?

I'm crap at nail art too, a bit of glitter is about the height of my skills.

Hi, I'm not particularly arty but i've started to enjoy it, things like stamping plates, and gel polish as a base have made it much easier to do, even for the less confident amongst us. Now its odd not to do some form of embellishments, which happened to me today!

I have to say I just love doing nail art...that was the main reason I started doing nails..but I am arty and I find its my Quick fix for doing art...my clients put in there requests for nail art as some can be quite complicated...so I do like to practice it...I do also do plain nails...but I do love the art!! And I hand paint all mine i[emoji173]️it!!! Xx

I think in a way it has. I am rubbish at it and dread being asked do I do it.

I love nail art if it's done well.

A subtle ombre is as far as I'll go on my own nails! But yes I would say it's more popular than it's ever been and I regularly get clients turn up clutching their phone with nail pictures from Pinterest! (Brings me out in a cold sweat sometimes lol)

I had to laugh at the bobble hat analogy! I too really appreciate the simple beauty of a well shaped, beautifully created nail.

I also think techs sometimes put the cart before the horse, creating truly magnificent artwork but frequently failing to grasp the concept of how to build a strong nail that is not going to snap off. Not always though and I know we have some highly talented geeks on here who are skilled in both areas [emoji4] but I do think there is an issue sometimes.

I offer glitter, ombres, stamping and decals. I'd say for me, creating the nail is me perfectly in my comfort zone whereas with nail art I'm out of it lol. My biggest bugbear with anything complicated is that it takes (me) ages with letting layers dry etc and clients don't want to pay more than a few £.

The majority of my clients ask for some sort of art now, simple stuff like glitter, stamping, ombré and the occasional free hand stuff. Nothing too blingy from them thank goodness!

My clients ask for nail art too. The vast majority of my appointments are now enhancements with nail art. I probably do 1 gel polish each week and even then there is usually glitter or Swarovski crystals requested

Definitely more popular. I left nails about 5 years ago and didn't offer nail art at all. Now I'm back am asked for it more than not so have had to start catching up!

Stamping plates, once you've got the hang of them make like a lot easier, as do water decals. My freehand art is nowhere up to standard and I really don't like 3D art, to do or to look at.

I agree, stamping plates & decals are a blessing!

I can free hand without being watched but stick an expectant client in front of me watching my every move and I cannot perform lol plus I find it stressful!

plus I find it stressful!

I suppose because I am not a huge fan of it I don't have much interest and so haven't had the enthusiasm to practice, practice, practice. I hate things not being right and so get frustrated and stressed when it doesn't turn out how I want it.

Must try harder!

I have probably been asked for nail art about 3 times in 16 years. I'm not remotely interested in doing it. I do glitter and ombré glitter and that's it - but I also don't do extensions so that may be part of it. I'm not a fan either so I probably exude an air of "don't even ask" lol x

I only do glitter and ombré glitter too. Nails are only about a quarter of the work I do and as I'm not keen on nail art I've not looked into it.

I love looking at some of the nails that are posted on this site...nothing short of amazing! But if I have an enquiry for that sort of thing I pass it on to a friend and she passes her holistic clients to me as she doesn't enjoy that as much.

I find clients are not prepared to pay for the art so unless it's a stamp or basic stick on decal like rhinestones or glitter I won't do freehand lines or art anymore. T takes me hour half to do a decent full set of extensions and easily another half hour to 45 min faffing about with art which should be charged time wise and there is no ways anyone is or would pay so simple : I don't do it .

My one Russian friend does amazing art and she charges triple my charge of a set of nails but she takes 3 hours per client and that's fine ! Her clients are prepared to pay triple plus they also don't mind sitting for so long ! (I would die!!)

I suppose a lot depends upon your location and your client base. I have never had anyone ask me for nail art, but then the town I work in is not really that sort of place, it's all old money, horses, gardening, and twinset and pearls!!

I hope you don't mind me asking but I bought stamping kit and it won't stamp on as smudges with the ibd just gel I use. Is there special stuff I should use instead for the stamping x

Hi
Yes you can't stamp with gel polish, you need stamping polishes bought from moyou or konad etc
Or some normal polishes work, tends to be the higher pigmented ones ie if you can do one coat of polish and it looks it's proper colour, it might well be a polish you can stamp with, have a play x

Aw brill thank you and what about ordinary nail art? X

It varies, sometimes I use a small brush or dotting tool and use shellac - or polish - or acrylic paints if you like x
