Hi Everyone!

I'm currently doing an apprenticeship and I'm going to do my first colour correction next week (with help of course!)

Does any one have any helpful advice and/or tips to help me get through it as easily as possible?

Thank you :)

Who is helping you do it?

I'd say get the client to go into the salon and do it there. This way you have all the stylists to ask for help etc. And all products at hand incase things don't go as planned.

I wouldn't advise doing a colour correction without a tutor or experienced stylists by your side.

Without knowing what the clients hair is like, desired effect and any previous colours nobody could really give advice what to use.

Take a couple of cuttings of the clients hair. Carry out ALL tests elasticity etc. Then if the hair is ok try a test strand with the colour.

But definitely do this colour in the salon or college x

Hi,
should have explained a bit more! it is in the salon with a stylist helping me all the way through! :) every things prepared for it! but i'd just like to go in there with a bit of research before hand so i'm as confident as i can be on the day :)

Oh ok :)
I don't know the colour of hair now or desired effect. But just remember to use your colour wheel to know what tone cancels another and if using mix tone a little goes a long way.

Your training so nobody expects you to know it all.

Don't be embarrassed to ask for help. People who have been hairdressing for years (myself included) need a bit of advice now and again.

If i was you i would keep looking at the colour wheel so you know the best tone to use to correct each tone. And look at the tones your colour range has i.e .1 blue ash, see if you have any green ash or purple ash x

Also when colour correcting it is important to remember that the hair will be much more porous and any colour you put on afterwards will take very well (or in my experience) eg: if you are looking for an after colour of a base of a 5 i would use a 6. Learnt this the hard way as a woman came for a colour correction with black hair after 3 applications of the colour corrector full colour and cut and blow she left with almost the same colour hair  luckily she thought it was great! good luck xx

wow that was so lucky haha! :) thanks for the advice! xx
