Hi geeks I got a call from a client ivd done shellac on a few times before - I'd done aprox 1 week ago her toes in hot pop pink with a row of stones across the cuticle she then went to Cyprus on hols and told me that on thd 1st day of her hols they went really strange - they've sort of faded bug it's still there - it's hard to describe there not chipped of lifted at all but the colour had gone all wishy washy and faded looking she said it must be the heat - as it was over 45 degrees but I said it shouldn't do that??? When I started to remove it I could see thd vivid pink underneath so it was as if thd top cost had re acted on ghd sun?? Shd had tropix on earlier in the summer to go on holiday where it wasnf as hot but still over 30 odd degrees! Any thoughts would be great as I really dong understand what happened! I took a pic but cant work out how to up load from my phone!
Thanks Jo x

Colours can react with suntan lotion, insect repellant, and chlorine plus sunlight.
Chlorine is a bleach and sunlight intensifies this action...products containing DEET also breakdown the service.
This should all be provided for in the client aftercare to advise them what to do and what to avoid.
If you do a search on this there's a good few threads with advise

Quite a few threads with the same.
The pink pigments used are not as stable in sunlight as others, so a few people have experienced this.
Clients need to make sure they follow aftercare x

Hi Jo,
The same happened to my client, with Hot chillis. She was given the correct aftercare and she said she wasn't in the pool at all and she didn't use suncream with deet and I know her well enough to believe her. We put it down to the sun, it had almost gone see through.

It happened to another client that had pink on toes(can't remember but think it was Tropix) she'd had it on a while and that had gone clear! Again she had the aftercare but had sat in the sun for a few days. Seems to be the pinks! Xxx

Thanks I'll hav a dig through the threads for advice in the sun - I hadn't heard of this before x

I've been super careful washing the sun cream off my fingers and applying solar oil twice a day yet my Gotcha still went white. Must be the chlorine as I've been in the pool twice a day. It's a hard life ;)

I have the aftercare sheets off the CND website for Shellac, but what are you supposed to advise clients with regard to prevention of this happening?

Are we talking avoid applying sun cream or use gloves, get someone else to do it?
Washing feet/hands after being in pool?
Surely you can advise study out of the sun? Or is it the combination of sun/chlorine together, so if you eliminate one that should solve the problem?
