I'm only asking because a few of my coworkers and I have different opinions (some of us have been trained differently). what's the best/predictable/fastest way to ensure even results?

I got trained to section into a hot cross bun and start at the front so the tint has been on the longest to develop, then working back so the hair is looking like I've just combed it back, hope that made sense :)

hot-cross what? haha

Ear to ear, and then front to back so you have four sections haha

We did this at college a few weeks ago.
We were taught to section into four and apply mid lengths and ends first and then the roots last :)

i only do midlenghts and ends first if it virgi8n red or going lighter, alternativly u can use a lesser peroxide on the roots so they develop evenly

I would section in a hot cross bun. Apply colour to mid lengths and ends first starting at the back. The underneath hair is darker due to no sunlight being on it etc etc I would then apply to roots as natural heat helps colour lift so if it was applied to roots first it ma look in even. If lightening the hair I would NOT do the hairline first as it is the most fragile area an can lead to breakage and damage. I guess it depends if your lightening or not. Everyone does things differently but we achieve the same results xx

do you start the last two sections in the nape or in the crown? do you outline the.sections first? at Sassoon we we taught to make 4 triangles on the head, then starting in the nape, apply colour on mids and ends and use cotton at the regrowth.

If its really dark and your lifting it start at the nape, to be honest everybody uses different techniques it all depends on the end result required. As a rule I never do the hairline first if using high lift or bleach due to the hair being finer. However if the client is grey I may start there first for coverage. It all depends on the client. My advise would be to do it how your employer requires you to do it xx

yeah, i find the way we do it at Toni & Guy okay, except when doing bleach or highlight because of expansion. since the hair lays back on other hair.

If using Wella, they recommend you should if red use the desired shade with 20 vol on the roots & 30 vol
On the ends. I personally like to work from the crown downwards & in brick work, I find this devolps more evenly & I find I get better results
