Advanced Tanning is fast becoming popular in the same way Brazilian waxing took over the Bikini. All the fashion Magazines rave about the 'real life airbrushing' that makes celebrities look up to 10lbs lighter on the red carpet.
This trend is now fully fed through to the consumer and when presented with a basic tan for £15 or a 3D tan for £25 they almost always request the latter.
3D tanning can also be linked into Customising your solutions, HD Tanning and used with the Au or Glow Tan.
The way you do a 3D tan will differ between your male and female clients. This tutorial concentrates on females.
What woman would not like longer looking legs, slimmer faces and waists or bigger cleavage. All this can be achieved and much more.
To start prepare the clients skin ensuring the PH is correct, the hands and feet prepped to give a HD finish and all make up, deodorant and Jewellery is removed.
Start with a colour that suits the clients skin tone and type, if needed mix this to suit her. For instant if the client is elderly or pale they will suit a 7 or 8% Tan with a 8, 9 or 10% to build up the contouring. If she is olive skinned you can use a 10% with 11 & 12% to contour.
Start with your HVLP gun and apply very light layers of the lightest shade. Don't apply too much at once or the skin will become too wet.
Once the client has the tan on all her skin its time to contour. Its best to use an airbrush compresser with a pen attachment for precision. You can do a 4D tan by using 3 shades or a 3D tan using just 2.
For the 4D tan:
The 3D tan is slightly different in that we only apply the 2 layers. You define in a different way to that of the 4D tan that creates a more perfect sillhouette.
For the 3D tan:
Your clients will happily pay a premium to have this treatment meaning a huge increase in tanning revenue and a brilliant way to target new clients with your new found skills that your competitors dont have!!
I do have Video tutorials of this but have no idea how to upload them on here :/ LOL!

For the 4D tan:
- Gently go over the sides of the torso,
- Spray down the inside and outside of the legs,
- Spray under jawline,
- Spray Cheeks,
- Spray the are commonly associated with bingo wings,
- Spray over the cleavage in a 'V' shape.
- Go back over the sides of the torso, this pushes the sides away giving an overall 'thinner' appearance.
- if the client has stomach definition define these areas further with gentle sweeps on the airbrush pen.
- Again highlight the sides of the legs to further push them away and lengthen and thin the legs down.
- on the back of the legs define the calf muscles and create a curve under the bum cheeks.
- a stripe of tan down the spine and catching the love handles again on this side help to create a further defined and toned appearance.
- Define the muscles of the arms creating a toned bicep and triceps.
- Create an even deeper 'V' into the cleavage to give depth to the area and create an appearance of fullness.
- Define the hollows of the collar bone.
- Define the jaw line again. This hides sagging jowels and double chins.
- Define cheekbones by applying the darkest shade just under the clients cheekbones.

For the 3D tan:
- Apply the darkest shade to the inside and outside of the clients legs.
- Contour the clients calf muscle and Glutteals,
- Define the spine and torso sides again.
- Define the 'V' of the cleavage.
- Define the sides of the Torso and if toned already contour and define the stomach muscles.
- Define the hollows of the collar bone.
- Contour the underside of the jawline
- Contour the face and create a perfect oval, or perhaps a heart shape appearance.
- Finally contour the underside of the cheekbones to slim the face.
