How to keep crystals on nails

Sorry if this has been asked before but how does everyone glue there diamontes/crystals on?
Iv always put them into the gel top coat and reglossed with the gel to seal them in, this has always been effective and they never loose a stone but just lately iv really like the look of some pics iv seen where the diamonte is on the nail with just glue?? No coating over them to change or distort how they look?? Hope this makes sense haha!
I could use nail glue to stick them on after finishing the nails but I just no they won't last x

Do you use hard gel?
I place mine in a blob of uncured hard gel and then cure, use a pointed orange stick to go round the crystal with top coat to seal in and then top coat the rest of the nail avoiding going over the crystal.
I never go over the top of my crystals with top coat as it definitely dulls them.

I lightly buff the top coat, use adhesive then one dry I seal all around with top coat and cure.
I regularly use crystals and find that they last until the next appointment.
