Well its very important to read the small print with insurance especially with all the people providing private training all over the place.
Chances are when it comes to paying out they wont want to.You could probably guarantee nvq, vtct, itec, cibtac qualifications would be insured by all insurers but not private courses.
When a course says accredited by the guild does that mean only the guild will properly insure it ... i dont know.

Hi Gillian,

Yes it does. We cannot speak for other insurance companies, as they all have different policies, so Guild accreditation is only relevant to the Guild.

Well i assume its accredited its not VCTC or Nvq its diploma of completance

Before starting a new course, you should ring your insurance company and check that they recognise the qualification that you will attain. The worst scenario is that you pay for a course which you insurance company will not then cover you for. You should not just assume it will be fine.

P.S. The Guild always request copies of certificates automatically on joining.

Hear hear, Louisa!

Yeah i did ring them prior to training they said its fine. I supose they work on a basis where if a claim is being made then they will want to see your certs

So Violet, have youstill not been given your pedicure cert, a year down the line? Or do you Have that now?

Still havent got it I done that course April 08.

I mentioned it to her a week ago and she hasnt mentioned anything about that one since.

Blimey. Dont think she would have got any more of my money for courses if I hadnt received certs from a year ago!

Was the nail course a long course? I wonder why she didnt get certs organised during the weeks you were doing the course etc?
Goodness, sounds like you are going to have to keep on and on for your certs! Dont give up re the pedi one either, the last thing you need is to be newly set up with insurance that wouldnt cover you as no certs. What a nightmare!

My two most recent certs were the CND Brisa conversion, and my Urban Tan one. They both arrived within 4 days of completing the courses. They aren't just made on a normal computer printer, they're professionally printed. That screams professional to me. What your trainer is doing to you is totally the opposite. I really hope she gets her act together, this is very poor on her part.

once it took me 6 mths to get a certificate and after calling every other day etc i finally got angry and left a voice message saying i would be going to trading standards if i have not received the certificates in 7 days. she had fobbed me off loads of times saying they were being printed, problems at the printers erm alll sorts. as soon as i threatened legal action i got the certificate in a few days i know a few people from the course are still waiting and gave up after over a year of waiting. As for the certificate it was a load of rubbish and basically not worth the paper it was on, totally uninsurable and absolute crap.

I learnt my lesson from that and now only go with reccomendations from others on salongeek.

good luck with CND course, I think I may convert soon xxx

Babe I don't mean to panic you but maybe she hasn't actually put in for your qualification. Hence the reason why she doesn't have your certificate?
Who is your certificate awarded by? Because i would contact them asap to see if your details are even on their system xxx

Im not too sure who its awarded by! She has a city and guild assesor thing so maybe its with them? Really dont know! x

Hi Violet I was wandering how you have gone on getting your certificates I would be really annoyed, it's a bit unusual for her not to have it ready for when you finished the course are you sure she is a legit trainer, I really hope for your sake she is, it just sounds a bit dodgy to me. Good Luck :)

I agree - we would never insure anyone without certificates up front, causes unnecessary bother doesn't it?

How about it we look at it this way?
If it was a store, that you bought something at, and they hadn't given it to you, but it's paid for and you have the receipt; could you not show up with the police and say "she won't give me my XYZ and I paid for it" ?
OR go there, ask for it agaain; when she refuses to cough it up, dial the police on the phone and say you've been robbed? LOL

I don't know, just tossing the idea out there, since solicitors can be pricey.
It's not hard to hit the print button on a pc. How weird.
I had my cert within a week, then there was a spelling error on it (they're french, and printed an english one for me, but wrote "Tweeny-first" instead of Twenty-first) and so they sent me the new one the next week.

OR could your insurance company put pressure on them and call her and ask for it?
Or a better business bureau?

just some ideas.

Violet Star - maybe you could tell her that if she doesn't issue you with your certificates you will publish her training school details on the Salongeek Site, along with a warning to prevent more people being conned by her.
Probably libellous - but, hey, I for one would love to know who she is, just in case I come across anyone thinking of going to her school.

Seriously though, maybe you should ask the Moderators on this site if you could do this if she doesn't cough up.

I'm liking this  xxx

Omg I would seriously not be happy!! Tell her you will go and pick it up and then she has no excuses. It's really not good enough if you have paid your money and passed the course!! xxx
I agree just ask her when she will be in and then go down. Good luck

I personally wouldn't go down this route, satisfying as it may seem, Rise above it and get your certs as you have earned them, and tbh I cannot understand why some would withold them. Best of luck with it all.

If that were to happen the post would be edited and the person's name would be removed.
We don't approve of naming and shaming, no matter how 'right' it might seem.
It wouldn't be the poster who would be slapped with a libel case, it would be Samuel and the site.

If the person concerned doesn't give the certificates then there are better routes to take (many of which have already been mentioned) other than outing them on the internet.
