Hi All,

Looking for peoples views we are thinking about getting part of our beauty salon fitted out for hairdressing. On a rent a chair basis we are very busy on the beauty side but would like to try this out alongside. Can anyone advise us on weekly rental etc...

We think it will help the business and bring in extra clients for both hair and beauty?

All posts welcome.

I think it's a good idea and the two work well together but....

1. If its rent a chair who is in charge of products, health and safety and insurance?
2. Is the salon large enough so the person having a massage can't hear people talking over the hair dryer?
3. Where I am from rent a chair for a day ranged from £50-£80 a day but this really depends on what part of the country you live in?
4. What products would you use and where would they be stored do you have the space for a colour rack?

These are just a few things to think about hope that helps and if you do it hope it goes really well for you : ))

Hi I am beauty qualified and extended my business to include hair last year. It's bloody hard work. Hair is so much harder to establish than beauty.
If your not hair trained you need to make sure your stylists are 110% capable and confident. There is alot of backlash from hair.
Previous poster gave great advice but mine is think long and hard about it. If beauty is so busy why not increase your beauty at least it's your area of expertise.
Put it this way if I had it to do again I wouldn't. PM me if you want any more info or want to throw ideas at me. I don't mean to sound so negative but running a hair salon is so much harder than I ever expected. And the main reason for me struggling so much was the fact that I don't do hair. I would say SE is def the way to go but as I said your stylists need to be s**t hot.

mmm more to it than we thought was looking to set up a station for them but would require them to provide all the products.
We would allow them full use off everything else i.e phone, water, electric etc...

Absolutely, it is hard work, i only did because i was approached by stylists who wanted to rent a chair. Kitted the salon out with two backwashes and six chairs. It seemed great at first but as soon as one leaves you cant replace them, they all want to be employed. ive only got one part timer now so half of my salon isnt even been used. Ive had all sort of problems getting a new water system in at great expense, people complaining about the noise in the beauty areas. Wouldnt do it again it just isnt worth it. if your not a hardresser it really is hard.

Good luck!
