Hi, I know you had a lot of good advice already. Just to tell you my experience I am 37 now and finished my level 2 a few months ago so started at 35. My age only came as a barrier when I went to look for salon jobs as they all wanted a young apprentice. I did find one where I started as a volunteer and now become a stylist there. Unfortunately it's not busy enough for me so ?I have just set up my mobile business and started advertising and soon hopefully I'll get really busy.
Please don't let age come as a barrier as you are only the age you feel you are! I feel about 25 lol. Good luck.

Ya heard about that its harder to find a salon to work at at our age lol, i might have to do the same volunteer which be a pain but i guess you got to start some where, what kind of work did you do when you did voluntary work? and how long was it till they started to pay you? thanks for replying back, im going to do extensions in a few months to earn extra money on the side with my beauty bits.

I finished my Level 2 last year at the Grand age of 53!
I did start an apprenticeship when I was 16 but never finished it , it may have taken a while but I got there in the end.
Now for a few years perfecting my art !
Go for it

Not sure if it has been said yet but one thing I would recommend is do as much work experience unpaid in a salon as you can. The longer you are with them the better chance you will have of being given hands on training and that is a must in salons.

Most salons look for a minimum of 2years experience these days and its always good to make a portfolio of your work so that it helps in interviews.

Good luck :)
