Hi geeks
I can't believe iv just emailed a salon about a job. Iv been working mobile for the past 2 months but things are so slow so iv taken the plunge and replied to a job. I have very low confidence when it comes to working in a salon so I'm
Looking for somewhere that's going to help me gain the confidence and where I'm going to feel comfortable working in. I love hairdressing and want to do it for years to come but scared of working in a salon. But at the same time I'm not busy enough to work for myself yet. I'm not really looking for advice I just wanted to know if I'm the only one who feels like this about working in a salon. I always feel like I get looked down at when I walk into a salon as I'm a plus size woman. Think that's where my confidence lies :( xx

I can't really help you with the salon thing to be honest but I just wanted to let you know that I sell beauty clothing and I sell a lot if it through my ebay shop or to people through facebook orders. I would say over 50% off those orders are from plus sized women so don't let that knock your confidence. If your good at what you do then your good at what you do people won't even notice. I hope you like the salon best of luck x

Thank you. I know alot of people these days are plus size but it's just hard when alot of places work on an image. Im confident that I'm good at what I do and hopefully that will show if I get an opportunity x

Im scared of working in a salon too :/ theres no jobs round my area anyway but i dont think i would be able to work in one & i dont know why! Im just in the process of starting up my own home salon but ive got another job so im ok for money atm. My dream is working for myself :) xx

There's not much near me. I don't have another job so moneys tight and I'm getting married next year so I need a full time job but don't want to do anything other than hairdressing. I'd love to work for myself too. My best friend does nails and she's getting married in may she said when she's back off her honeymoon she's going to look into setting a salon up and I can rent a chair but thing is I can't wait that long I'm bored of doing nothing. Iv got 2 -3 clients a week at the min and not sure why. It's annoying. X

Have you been advertising? Doing offers or anythng? Im excited but also dreading opening up cos im scared i wont get any clients ): if you do go for the salon job, keep doing mobile too as over time you'll get more clients & then you mighht have enough to make some money when you rent the chair off your friend :) xx

Good luck beautiful lady in getting a job, times are definitely hard in this tough financial climate.
As for you worrying about being plus sized, please don't, i would gravitate more towards you in a salon than any size 8 perma tanned perfection any day. In fact i almost didn't do my course because i perceived all the girls would be fake fingernail, big hair and perma tanned bitchy types, i got myself so worked up but when i started my training boy was i glad and so relieved to find that every therapist was totally normal and down to earth.
Hold your head high my lovely and be confident in your plus size beauty and be proud of who you are and that you are an amazing therapist!!

Thanks for the replies. I advertise through facebook at the minute. I know it's not much but work I've had this past month is through that and word of mouth. I'm waiting for flyers and my price lists to arrive and then I can advertise in shops and door to door. If I went to a salon I'd definately prefer to get my hair done by someone plus size than some one who was looking down at me constantly. Thanks for the encouragement just hope I do get a reply from this salon. And they aren't one of those places that look at body size before offering a job xx
