yeah - it's not pleasant, but it doesn't bother me as I only do it once every 3-4 months - different matter if you're in contact all day on a frequent basis. I get the product from Brazil and wouldn't be surprised if it failed the tests if eventually subjected to them - although touted as being safest product for export to EU or somesuch.

Hi, i use Global Keratin and do two or three treatments per mth, I too get numbness in a couple of fingers but its due to the way im holding the straightners and caused by the heat not the product. A fan and open window combat the sore throat :)I think if we took note of scare storys we wouldnt eat, drink, go out in puplic...live lol think it comes down to common sence. there is formaldehide hiding in lots of everyday products, nail varnish for example x kirsty x

hiya the salon that im in is very well ventilated its a old red sandstone building with very high celling and big bay windows which ive got 2 of them opened when i do the treatments i do agree there is scare story's out there but when you have real symptoms that you only get when you have done the treatment i think its better to take precautions when ever possible 2morro ive got 3 booked in and im planning on wearing a mask i also spoke to the suppler this week who also adviced i wore a mask he also said there was a few other people said they had a sore throat doing them

I had a guy call me yesterday at the salon. He explained he got my number from my website and that he saw I use kerastraight. He then went on to ask did I know about some tests that were carried out in July, I said no and he said "you should really know everything about a product if you are going to specialise in it" (instantly got my back up)

he went on to tell me that kerastraight and a few other companies that he named were put on the dangerous products list, and were not safe to use and had been recalled. He then went on to say the product he distributes is the only safe one on the Market that has passed all these tests.

Has anyone else heard any of this? He emailed me some more info, I could forward it to anyone who wants a look. I just found it all a bit peculiar that he was openly slating his competitors and also that I've heard none of this on here or from kerastraight?

as far as i know the only keratin product that has a genuine european health and safaty certificat in nanokeratinsystem.co.uk i have a copy of that actual certificate, we use it in our salon and it is superb ! get back to me if you need any more info..........

LOL! I like that!!

How odd is this my forefinger is numb after doing 2 Brazilians today, and it still is now 3 hours later, also I purchased a new set of straightners, not a gr8 make, but off the shelf from Sallys, 2 Brazilians later I had to take them back as the ceramic coating was completely striped off, 1 Brazilian later tonight, 2 nd pair, ceramic coating on its way out again, think I'll exchange for FHi.

This is starting to make me wonder! Has anyone else experienced this?

The best Irons to use to perform this treatment are ones with Titanium plates, as they don't wear off, are non porous and maintain the temparature, wheres Ceramic ones are pourous, and can change temp by as much as 20 degrees C as you are using them. Hope that helps.

Hi Kimi.... I would dearly love to see that email. Most of what is written here is true (ish) All of the brazilian products contain a chemical (There are numerous names) that produces formaldehyde when heated, although very few of them actually contain formaldehyde. This guy is trying to get you to buy his product and scaring you away from all the others. Most of them on sale in the UK at the moment conform to the EU regulation (Cannot produce more than 0.2% formaldehyde)
Remember we all work with chemicals everyday and as long as you take care and use common sense, all the recognised brand names are perfectly safe. Always wear gloves, and work in a well ventilated area. You may get a tickle in your throat or get watery eyes if the area is not ventilated, but that may happen if you peel an onion. ;-)
If anyone needs any more deetailed info about these products, please post here or feel free to PM me.
Cheers

Grant

This is interesting, because we are all trying to defend our little income maker..But the truth is, we all get a tickle throat. The clients eyes sting whilst having it done, even though i keep the doors open. Formaldehyde is in nail polish but it is when heated that it becomes toxic.
I notice that when I do one the rest of the day and the next day, my finger tips wrinkle as soon as they go in water and look like they would if I had sat in the bath for 5 hours. Strange looking and a bit numb. I think this tells me something. I only do about 1 a week but I feel if i started wearing a mask, I would scare the client, seeing as it is sold as Keratin conditioning treatment that relaxes hair.

We were getting a haze thru the room during the blowdry part......fan on one side and air purifier on the other seemed to fix this. The one I did Saturday let off no haze, and no harsh smell......and no having to explain the chocolate fog to the rest of the clients:green:

Hi Squeaky... Are you wearing gloves when you apply the treatment? If not, you should be. Also, if there is a lot of vapour being emitted during the drying or flat ironing part, it couls be that you are using too much product. Remember, this is not a colour and should only be applied in small dabs down the hair and a brush at the ends. It should then be massaged into the hair and then conbed through with a fine toothed comb. Excess product on the comb can then be used for the next section. (Not only will this help with the irritations, but will save money as you'll be using far less product and the outcome will be the same.) THis should eliminate most of the teary eyes and tickly throats, especially if you ventilate the area well.

I am wearing gloves whilst putting on the product, but take them off before flat ironing, so not exposed for the whole duration!!. I must say. I suspect i do use too much product. Their hair is often a bit lank until their next wash, due to excess. However, I am afraid of underloading and then getting unhappy clients coming back within a month. My sections are tiny, but I will try using less product. On chest length wavy hair, I am using about 100ml. Have to say in my favour, at 3 months, they are still going strong, but that could be the product quality and not the amount.

Hmmmm, I think for that length hair, you should be using about half that amount (50ml). Not sure which brand you're using, but I do think you should try it. Also, if you're able without too much fuss, wear your gloves whenever you have to handle the hair with product on it. That should help with all the probs and you'll get double the treatments. Good luck !!! :)

defo gonna try to use less. It is probably made worse by the excess burning off especially in the less porous areas. Thank you for the tip:wink2:

Has anyone tried or seen the new product L'Kerabelle products, from the same people who distribute global keratin.

They say it is 100 % formaldehye, urea and aldehye free even when heated - and it is safe to use on pregnant women, clients who have undergone chemotherapy and children.

Is it any good?

:green:Anyone familiar with the Enzo same day wash brazilian blow dry products?
these are the products im currently using.
When Im doing treatment my eyes water really bad and i feel like my throat is burning.

Hi All,

I just want to tell you all something. I am not a hairdresser but I am from Brazil and live in the UK. The brazilian blowdry treatment has been popular in Brazil for many years. I've had many friends over there who had it done before. This is a very strong treatment that contains very strong chemicals including formol which is can cause intoxication and even cancer in this long run. It has happened over in Brazil that people died after having the treatment! Please type up on google.com.br the phrase " morte apos escova progressiva " and you will see how many stories there are out there (in Portuguese sorry).

I would never have this treatment done myself and i know that after having it done once you need to keep having it done or your hair will look very bad (friend's experiences).

Be careful with what you are using because this can also affect your own health.

 Renata

The link you have posted is 3 years old. I have had a look and it was never confirmed this was the cause of death. The product that was used is very different to the keratin treatment that is being discussed here.

I have said this before, there is NO Formaldehyde in keratin blowdrys.

As for the link to Oprah's site, give me a break! Since Oprah champions Jenny 'mommy instinct' McCarthy, you really can take everything (and everyone) on that forum with a pinch of salt. Jeez! If you want facts about science then look at published papers NOT Oprah!

The original report/experiment, which was done in Ireland, has since been re-done with inconclusive results. as far as we currently know, the keratin blowdrys are safe.
