ok, to follow on from my last 2 posts, turns out this new customer (email enquiry) has an elite nsg membrane(toupe I assume?) wants it razor cut to blend in, advanced hair studio sends him a new one (they fade to a brassy blonde so he has to renew)
> lots of questions,
should i go out to do a man on my own? (he has written
long emails explaining situation, too embarrased to go into a salon, but slightly odd as he doesn't tell his daughters he has replacement hair)

should i offer to dye his old 'piece'?,
anyone experienced with blending in toupe's?
I do feel an element of sympathy for him, and he could be a good regular client, although i haven't experience cutting a toupe i am quite capable and I do have wigmaking qualifications, but he does live in the middle of nowhere and it all seems a little intense.

any advice fellow geeks??

If your unsure (which i think you are hence the post) take someone with you...if he is genuine he wont mind.....or ask him to come to your house.

Thanks Pip, yes i am unsure, i took 'men' off my price list and website specifically for this reason but he obviously has a need and may prove to be a regular(much needed). my house is a renovation mess so unsuitable for most visitors let alone clients!:o
i may have to talk my husband into doing some paperwork in the car, it feels weak and unprofessional to take someone along but.....

anyone else got toupe blending or colouring experience?

When I do new male clients, always tell someone the address details and set yourself a time limit eg ( if not out in 1hour tell someone to ring you) he seems a alright person the way you have described him, just to embrassed to out to a bust salon. X

Exactly my response, perfect!

sorry i just came over from the beauty side, when i have a new male client, or even a new client in an area i'm not sure of, my dad sits in my van outside and i keep my phone in my pocket at all times, we have a drill that if anything happens i drop my kit and run and que my dad... 6'4 chubby retired and disabled fireman... thinks hes scary but hes not... haha, also i put the address on the counter at home so everyone knows where i am :D i think taking someone into the house is abit off, just make sure you set up your stuff so your closer to the door than he is and make a note of how to get out, sounds silly but you wont be laughing if something goes wrong

I believe he should go back to advanced hair studio for regular maintenance as his natural hair will need to be shaved and the membrane readjusted.
What's his reason for not going there?
If another stylist cuts it , it will affect his insurance of the piece and they're not cheap!!

I don't see a problem taking someone in. When I do a new male client, (massage as I don't do hair) I take my 6'2" ex-squaddie dad who carries my table in then goes and sits in the car. I keep my phone handy and on display so my client knows my dad is on standby and easy to get to should anything untoward happen. If your client is genuine he will understand and it won't matter. X

Hes been on the 'programme' for 4 years, driving 60 miles for his 4 week appointments, finding it too much - travelling and money. Do you work for them Miss Buzz?

Have u spoke to him on phone yet ? Maybe if u did it would reasure you more or say you would be happy to go over for a free consultation first and have someone in the car waiting for you! Hope this helps you a bit :)

No sorry I don't work for them !
Just remember when you cut the hairpiece you need to leave the edges slightly longer ( like a small overlap) as the natural hair at the back and sides will grow and the top won't (obviously!)
If you cut it perfectly blended in , the style will grow out quite quick. Although not such a bad thing for you!!

There's nothing wrong in meeting someone outside your home if it is for professional purposes. And beside that is your nature of work. And of of course you are the one who knows your self.

Hi, personally if you are unsure (&obviously you took male client prices off your price list for a reason) I'd stick with your gut feeling & not go. I took male prices off my price list as I've been in 2 really odd houses & I just didn't feel safe at all and it made me realise that safety comes first. Also doing men's cuts just wasn't very cost effective for me. But whatever you decide just make sure you put your safety first!x
