Hi,
i recently joined this site and think its fab!...Anyhoo, i really need some advice on setting up my own mobile technician buisness, i completed an ICS nail technician diploma at the beggining of the year and ive learned how to do gel nails through NSI. Ive been doing friends and familys nails but i really want to do it as a career now, by setting up my own mobile buisness! ive got everything i need and ive made hundreds of fancy leaflets and my plan was to do a leaflet drop in my area and all surrounding areas and then just wait on the calls! :| But i dont know, ive had some ppl saying id get loads o customers and ive had some ppl who have been a bit doubtfull!
I need to know if im doin it rite and if anyone has any advice??
thanks!!:?:

My opinion is that it totally depends on the area that you live/work in!

Some people get really good results fro leaflet drops (Louise) and some people don't!

If you don't get many then put an ad in the Yellow - If you get too many then take on what you think you can handle!

Good luck!

Hi and welcome!
I think it really depends on what level of business you want to do. Is this going to be full time? Part-time? Spare time? I'm a mobile tech but I only work around my husbands shifts as we have young children and no ffamily around us to babysit. So I prob work around 16 hours a week, sometimes more, sometimes less. You have to be prepared for it to start off slowly because I've found that word of mouth is the best form of advertising there is and until you've got a bit more experience, that won't build up so quickly!
I started by doing leaflet drops in my area and although a lot of people have found it doesn't work well for them I found it a great place to start. I got a few customers booked in, not loads but then it didn't overwhelm me! Then I did some more drops in different areas. Pick and choose your areas to drop leaflets as this will save a lot of time and effort!
I've also found just the free line ad in Yellow pages (which gets you also on yell.com) and phone book has been fab as I'm the only mobile tech listed in the area.
After a couple of months get some more training which will boost your confidence and skill and will really help with word of mouth sales.

All the best, get leaflet dropping!

yea it would be full time, and there are no mobile technicians in this area either which is good! Im really excited about starting it but scared at the same time cos of the money side of it!!

Yes, it can be a pretty daunting prospect to begin with.
"you have to speculate to accumulate", isn't that the saying? It might seem like you're investing a lot of money to begin with but when the clients start rolling in you'll be laughing! Just make sure you've registered your business with the inland revenue for tax and insurance stuff otherwise you might have a bit of a shock come April next year!

Good Luck anyway.

thanx for the advice ;) the tax thing is something il need to take care of asap

if you are thinking about doing it mobile full time then i would pay for a decent ad in the yellow pages, word of mouth is good but you have to make people aware that you excist.
i paid for an ad back in march and it has brought me so much businesss.
as soon as my ad went in the phone started ringing... i am lucky enough to have 2 yellow pages in our area preston and merseyside so i have a free line in one and a paid ad in another.
my car is signed up too.
put a bit of money into advertising (before of phone calls looking for you to advertise with them though) and your money will come rolling in
