I recently completed the L&P enhancement course with CND and was thrilled when my friend offered to be one of my models, however she has become increasingly picky and demanding and I 'm not too sure if this is putting me off wanting to takieit any further.

The first set was a french manicure, I had thick acrylic to soak off her nails and The service took over 6 hours, they looked really nice and she seemed happy, but complained they were lifting and cracking in places after 10 days. The second set took 4 hours, 10 days later she is telling me one is nearly falling off and can I fix them again.

I realise I need to learn and that each model will have different challenges, but I feel that any spare time I have is taken up on one person. My friend has only ever had acrylic nails done at a nail bar and although we clearly work very differently she keeps telling me how I should be placing the product, filing it down or that I should use a bigger brush, I want to practice on a variety of models, but how can I do this without compromising my friendship.

Any advice would be appreciated

Thankyou

Explain that during your course or training regime you must practice on a variety of nails and nail types therefore after (insert number) of nails on a singular client charges will be made to cover costs and times/ her services will no longer be necessary and thank her for her time and ask for feedback.

I appreciate how you feel and many 'friends' do not get that learning these skills can be hard and simple ill thought out comments can have extreme detrimental effects on confidence. I would take this down to experience and good luck to the future .

Well done on completeing your course, firstly you should be charging a nominal amount to annyone who wants to "model" for you, £10 is a fair price,as for her telling you how to do the service, gggrrr, ignore her comments,is she qaulified? No, has she paid out for training? No, all you need to say is, i need to charge £10 (which by the way is a tiny amount) to cover my products,so that i can replace them when im low, thus she will start taking aftercare a bit more seriously! Please explain your application so we can understand and maybe help you as to why there cracking. No "friend" should expect this service for nothing!

I agree. When I trained some of my 'friends' would not even pay £5 contribution towards a pedicure but then wanted to charge me for hair services. The cheek:eek:

To be honest I wouldn't even say anything, just ask someone else to 'model' when you're next free! I would also put rules in place e.g. Money for products per service or 2 sets per model etc. Whatever suits you! Remember just because she has 'kindly' offered to model, doesn't mean you have to do her nails if you don't want!

People we know can sometimes be the most difficult clients....!! 😂

Thank you for all your replies

I have decided to offer to fix my friends broken nail as I felt responsible, also I have limited rebalancing experience therefore I guess it will give me an opportunity to practice, although a rush job on my lunch break is going to be a real challenge.

I am unsure how a piece of acrylic fell out near the middle of her nail in zone 2! I felt that I followed all the correct P.R.E.P procedure, all my products are CND, I am wondering if the product has got too close to the side walls maybe touching the skin has caused this, or the product was too thin, I'm really not sure.

I will perhaps advertise for models in the near future, preferably ones that won't tell me how they think it should be done, as I have to agree it can be those closest to us that are the most difficult.
