I have an interview and trade test tomorrow, my first ever one and I've just been practising my French on 2 friends and I was nowhere near happy with it [emoji17] I just can't seem to do it without getting the white all over their fingers which just makes such a mess. Im feeling totally despondent [emoji17]

Any tips for doing the white tips? I use Shellac and I'm happy with everything else just the white tips [emoji35]

Thanks xxx

Have you tried to apply the white towards you rather than straight across the nail, hope this makes sense! Then use a small nail art brush with polish remover on (if using normal polish) to sharpen the smile line and to remove any that goes onto the skin. I would use a white polish then a sheer pink and top coat. Same technique with shellac but use scrub fresh to sharpen the smile line and you could use pink before the white as the pink once cured wont smudge. Make sure the white is a thin coat, as you can always apply another coat if necessary.
Hope this helps x

Thanks! I haven't tried that method but will give it a go, thank you!xx

I find french difficult as well...but I was told by a trainer that with some people you just can't help getting the white on the skin, especially if they have short nails, and it doesn't matter as long as you clean it up. She also recommended using a striper brush to apply the white tips if clients have short nails, I haven't tried that yet though.

Dont worry about getting it on the skin! It happens to everyone with short nails you cant help it. They'll know this. Just clean up as you go along, So do one finger with the white and give it a quick wipe underneath with a lint free pad with remover on it. Or a nail brush dipped in remover.
Dont panic, relax, act confident and just do it. Dont worry about making a mess just clean it up. Once it looks good finished they wont care how big a mess you made. Confidence is key, fake it til you make it!
Good luck!

How did it go? Xx

I love doing French! I do clearly pink or grapefruit sparkle then I apply a thin layer of cream puff to the free edge, doesn't matter if it's messy then I use a brush (dry) to take off the messy bits and make the smile line. Honestly once you get the hang of it it's so easy that way!

Try applying the french with a dotting tool:

This really helped me out! You can work more precicely , especialy on short nail, so less mess!:D

It was ok! In the end she didn't ask me to do a French lol! It wasn't my best set but certainly wasn't horrendous! I was quite nervous but she knew that so I'm sure will take it into account. Will hopefully hear back next week!

Thanks for asking!xx

Always paint your right hand first if you're right-handed! It always comes out much better that way for some reason!

Thanks I'll try this! X

another strange tip is if you are right handed do the left hand side of the nail first and then the other, don't know why this works either but it does :) I use small short stroke going from north to south , do a stroke the centre , slightly angel the brush and work my way out to the left hand side with short strokes and then do the same for the right hand side , it really does help! haha must be a strange brain control thing :)

if your left handed you would do the right hand side first :)

So I got an email today saying unfortunately I haven't been successful as I need to have a minimum of an NVQ from college plus 1 year salon experience to work there! That's fine but she knew before I went for the trade test that I didn't have either as I had already sent my CV and a detailed covering letter explaining my qualifications before I went for the interview and trade test. I'm not too bothered about not getting the job as I thought it was a long shot but I took a day off work, paid a babysitter, bought a new outfit and paid to have my hair done and it seems there was no point in any of it! What a waste of time. [emoji17][emoji17][emoji17]

Chalk it up to experience! Next time you have an interview you will know what to expect and won't be so nervous xxx

Oh that is frustrating! Agree they shouldn't have interviewed you if they are saying you didn't fit the criteria, why invite you to interview in the first place? Sorry you weren't successful, better luck next time x

What?! That's so annoying. Especially when you've made such an effort. Some people are so inconsiderate of others and the efforts they make. However I do try to think that when a door closes a window opens - the right think will come up for you hun xxx
