Hi all as you can see from the title Im new to all this and was just hoping for a bit of advice...
I would like to start working with nails(if thts the right thing to say???)but not sure what the best route to take?
I have applied to a college about 45 mins from where I live to do an NVQ 2 Nail Techician course which will run for about a yr but not sure on the cost yet.I have an interview next wk to disguss all that and what the course will involve.
The thing is I was wondering whether it would be best to go down the college route or to try and find some training in my area??
The only experience I have is painting my own nails and familys(girls lol) and having a friend do gel nails for me which I loved.(shes a pro).
Any advice would be great.

Thanks for reading.:)

hello and welcome to Salon geek.
It all depends on your college, some have amazing courses that cover everything and the tutors are bril, others however are completly hopeless and the peeps end up doing a privete course anyway. I would advise you to speak to peeps who are currently on the course and if you can to ones who attended last year to see what they think, how many of them are actually taking on paying customers and how confident they feel.
I was to impatient to do a college course and needed to keep my 60 hours a week full time job so I trained with CND. I was lucky enough to find a CND trainer near to me who was holding an evening class. One night a week over 8 weeks with a gap for week 7 so we could do a proper rebalance night.
I have never regretted it. The training was first class, covered everything very thouroughly and they always had time for my very picky why why why attitude.
One of the girls was really struggeling and I know she had quite a lot of 121 time with our trainer at no extra cost.
Heres the link if you are interested,
Education

Why not give them a call and have a chat about costs and what they cover. At the very least it will allow you to look at the collage and see if you are going to get as much out of your year.
Don't worry about it not being an NVQ qual, my CND qual has opened more doors for me and got me work ahead of an NVQ qualified tech on a couple of occasions:Love:

i did a one day course years ago (not with cnd) and it was rubbish, it only taught me the basics. im now doing my level 3 nail tech diploma at college its a full time course on a wed, thu & friday. its was meant to be level 2 but they changed to level 3 because there was so much to do. in this course there is acrylics, gels, fibreglass and maintenace, minx, airbrushing, nail art including embedding, 3d, branding & electric filing. There is a lot of written work but i think this helps you to understand what you are doing & why. plus college may help you find work experience and if not theres always plenty of clients in the college salon to work on

Hi thanks for your replys.I'll look at the CND website and try and get in contact will people who have attended the college.Like you say at least they've been there and done it.
I know my friend who has her own beauty salon is interested in having nail tech so there might be a chance of me givin her a hand if all goes well.
Thanks again.
