Hi, iv been qualified in spraytanning for over 10 years. I used to only spray friends and family as i already have a 9-5. Iv recently just started doing a thursday night in my friends salon.
Iv never had any complaints on my tans but recently i have had two people complain about their legs being patchy.

I just cant seem to pinpoint why. Im guessing its poor prep but how do you explain that to them? I send out skin prep and after care.

I sprayed a lady last night and she wants me to respray her today as she is going on holiday tomorrow…..do you have any advice?

Normally i dont like to spray over old tan. Is this okay?

When I trained in school we respeayed after 48 hours to build up the colour and also offer contouring.

If the client is patchy, over spraying may make things worse. She needs to exfoliate and moisturise and start again, otherwise the dark patches will get even darker.

Moving forward, I suggest you revise your terms and conditions so that you exclude liability for patchy results. This time of year is always a bit tricky - heating goes on, legs are covered during the day and skincare goes out the window. Maybe you could alost offer a luxury manual tan with an exfoliating treatment as an upgrade option. That way clients can decide what works best for them and maybe accept that they selected the wrong option for their needs.

Try not to worry too much. These hiccups are all part of the growing process. Running your own business isn’t easy and requires after hours effort, thought and reflection which is why you earn so much more an hour than being an employee - there’s a lot of behind the scenes work besides the client treatment time.
