Hi Geeks,

so my Gran is in desperate need of a perm, her stylist is unable to fit her in this month so she hasasked if i would do it. I'm ine with doing it but am undecided on teh lotion. her hair is 100% grey - she occasionally uses the odd semi colour on it - once every 12 weeks or so. The hair feels father course and although not great density it is medium to thick.

I have ruled the colour option lotion out as her her is coloured so little nad hasnt been done since the beginning of an and that was only a semi i cant decide if to go for normal lotion or resistant?

Also i am using wella, but there are three options available now - two of which we have used at college: Wella Perform Carnitin, wella soft and lasting (id rather not go with this as sallys insist you buy them in 3's and i dont need 3!!) or well aproffessional curl it Mild or Intense.....

Any ideas......Just want to give my gran a great result.

When I used to perm grey resistant hair in good condition, I always used L'oreal Dulcia for resistant hair, or Goldwell Bio-curl, But if her hair takes the perm easily, then just use the Normal lotion.

Sorry I cannot really comment on other lotions, as I always used the above lotions.

However, in general, most grey hair in good condition either use the Normal or Resistant lotions with good results.

Thanks for that,

I want it to take but cant decide if to go normal and leave on full length or go for resistant and literally stand like a hawk watching it!!

I wouldn't worry too much. Just use your Wella perm for Noramal hair and leave for say 15 mins and keep checking the curl every 5 mins until your satisfied, then rinse and neutralize. :wink2:

But if her hair is difficult to take, then use your resistant lotion and just keep checking every 5-10 mins.

I use goldwell bio x for grey hair or one for coloured...i must admit if its a semi i would go for x lotion and keep checkin it...never had a problem with it;)

I'd go for normal myself, if semi's take ok then I'm sure a normal perm which is stronger than a permanent tint would be more than strong enough to give a good lasting perm.

If its just for the body you are doing the perm then clynol do a perm gel, gives great body for up to 12 weeks, really easy to use.

On brands though, I don't think you can go wrong with wella for perming, they have been one of the leaders for long enough, so obviously are doing something rite, their colours on the other hand... Xoxo
