Hiya lauren89

I've applied for Contempary Hair Academy in Middlesbrough.
TBH I'm not entirely clued up on the place. Do I train at the Academy or am I put on a placement?

Oh I've not heard of that one. But if you've applied for a junior apprenticeship you'd probably do one day a week at college and four days in salon or full time in a salon and your tutor will come out to assess you.

When do u find out if you've got a place? Xx

Thanks for the clarification. The website doesn't explain much so it's no wonder I didn't have a clue.
I have only applied for the apprenticeship. I'm waiting to hear back from them to see if I have an interview.

Thanks. I feel ready to get on with it so just hope I am given the opportunity to shine. (As corny as that sounds :irked:)

Not corny at all you'll do great, you sound enthusiastic which is always good :)

Welcome to the craziness which is salon geek! And well done for getting back on track and doing what you really want to do!! X

Hi Scott, (i'm just downt he road from you :) ) congrats and well done for finally making the move into hairdressing. You are never too old to start!! I started when I was 28 and I have done a lot more than some ppl do in a life time :) so with hard work and commitment the world is yours lol

Hello folks

I finally received a reply from the hair academy today.
They said I had to find a salon who will employ me for a minimum of 30 hours per week in order for them to assist me.
I've had no luck so far. I've decided to stop looking and move on. I'm very heart broken and disappointed but it obviously isn't meant to be for me.
Thanks for all the well wishes anyways.

Take care x

Don't give up on your dream..
Have you looked at other alternatives? Other academies? Or adult learning courses? Or even salons which offer apprenticeships? .. I used to work for 'sean hanna' and they offer an apprenticeship scheme. Not sure if they have a salon near you, but could be worth checking out their website?
I trained privately with SAKS academy, could check to see if they have an academy near you too?
Let me know :) xx

Oh no! This is sad to hear. Please dont give up on your dream, keep trying to find a placement, or as abstyle said, an adult learning course. Adee Phelan is my inspiration, he began training at 27 so he was an older learner, but he shows how rewarding the drive and talent can be, even if there are hurdles along the way. I really do hope you can find a way to pursue your dream. Dont give up xx

Adee Phelan was on secret millionaire a few weeks back. I think he is amazing :)

As soon as I have completed all my beauty course's I will defo be doing hair.

Saks seems a brill choice, but there is not one close enough to me :(

I would defo recommend saks, there options are brill.

Don't give up xx

Hi Scott! I'm a late bloomer too - started my course at 33 :) It's been challenging but I love it and I'm about to graduate and start up mobile... Don't give up, if it's what you are passionate about you deserve to have the opportunity to follow your dreams! I wish you well and hope it works out for you.
