Hello everyone, I'm new here and I need your advice please.
I have recently qualified in Manicure and Pedicure.
My local salon my hairdresser offered her empty room if I'm interested to start off. I was very happy and my happiness however was short lived.
When I asked her how much would you like for the room she said she would take percentage off from me when I have clients and if I use too much electricity and and if I get under her feet she'll get rid of me (then she gone red) !!!!!!!!! The exact words!!!! I said I won't use much electricity because when I'm there on Saturdays I put the lights on and when I'm not there is switched off.
I was hoping for a professional discussion - price of the room and her salon rules but I didn't get that.
It is literally down the road from me, I have a full time office job and would be there only Saturdays and maybe Fridays or when needed. I'm trying to set up a client base as a back-up plan for redundancy from my full time job. I am very passionate about it and no matter what I'll make this business work.
I want to pay for the room and what do you think I should pay? It is a windowless box room in a village.
Any advice greatly appreciated. Thank you. :)

Ummm what a weird response from her! Maybe she's had problems with people who have rented a room from her before?

Not sure where abouts you are but I rent a room in a fairly busy salon for £20 a day. No percentage of earnings, just a flat rate.

Also, did she say how she would calculate how much electric you use? Does she actually want to rent the room or she trying to put you off do you think?

Either way, good luch whatever you decide to do! Sounds like it could be perfect in some ways x x

Just because she wasn't altogether professional with you, it doesn't mean that you can't be professional with her. You could go back to her, tell her you've been doing your research and you feel that say, £20/day is a fair rate to include electric etc (prepare to go up a bit on this if she tries to negotiate, but have your limit). Ask her for a 6 month lease, perhaps with a 3 month probation/get out clause. Ask her to include any rules & regulations & then you can negotiate anything you're not happy about.

If she has had her fingers burnt in the past, the. At least you're showing her that you are professional, serious and want to have everything above board.

Good luck x

@ pinkbowsbeauty and Debbsxo thank you both :)
You hit the nail on the head. She did have two people in before, one of them was never really there and the second one had some issues too. I hope third time lucky and it will be me. ;)
I definitely want to pay her something it just feels right to pay my way.

Thank you both xx :)
