Hi geeks just want some advice please.

Want to set my own salon up, but just specialise it for extensions.

Would obs do your norm cut n blows, dry trims, gents and kids etc but NO colour or perming services. But advertise as an extension Shop.

What are your thoughts? No salons in my area that are specifically for extensions and thought it was a great idea.

All feed back welcome :)

I think it's an excellent idea! I'm thinking the same but further down the line. Not many doing it even in London but the demand is growing. I think customers would trust someone more that specialise in it and do many extensions per week. Just make sure you do relevant market research and have a big enough client base already to survive.

There is one where i live, and they are always busy, she has now opened her thrid salon, in Chester.

She has girls who does the work well she does all the consultions, its called Fresh or something like that?

Not sure if they have a website, so you have a look at ideas?

Wow Great! I will look into it then :)

I just checked on-line it's defo called fresh Wrexham and Crewe :) x

I think its a great idea. total unique selling point.Gives people more confidence in your service i would say as you would have a premises.

Good luck whatever you decide x

Great idea but I do think you should do colour. Clients will be desperate to get their colour done once their extensions are out (I know that's what I most look forward too when I have mine out) and you could encourage them to have it coloured in your salon prior to having them
In or maybe include it in the price for your hair extensions but maybe order as you go when you do the consultations a week or so before so you dont have unused stock all over the place. Maybe you could just offer colour to hair extension clients? X

aww thank you!!!

My salon was for hair extensions only and now I have a fantastic hairstylist who rents a chair from me and has done for the last couple of months. It's been good as she can now colour my clients hair and my client get everything done in one go. So it's hairdressing and hair extensions combined. We also offer hair extension cutting courses too. The hairstylist is a tutor and an assessor and we have had some students on the course who have rated it fantastic. It also brings in extra money

Ohhh I'd love to come visit you Denise! Sounds like exactly what I want to do. I love how you have got to this point because you are totally passionate about extensions and not by always going the traditional route.

I started off mobile then into my lounge, upstairs into a small room, then rented a room in a building, then six months later came back home and made a bedroom into a hair extension studio then moved home last year so loved back into the room in the building I previously rented and then four weeks later a shop came up near my home so went for it and haven't looked back am now doing it full time and have a hair stylist who rents a chair from me three days a week. Works great.

If I could get a stylist in that was also a great colourist we would do colours too but I am rubbish at them lol

Hi i think this type of salon will become very popular. Im just wondering how far youve got as i am planning the same thing but only extensions and blow bar. i have found premises, at present im looking for another partner to come in. I was going to post a thread looking for business partner but wasnt sure if we were allowed to, then i saw yours. Would you be interested at all.

i think this sounds great!! would agree though that people might like their colours done though, i know my girls like to get their roots done as soon as the extensions come out and before the new set go in to keep it all fresh!
really think it sounds great so i wish you all the luck :)

Well I will advertise for staff and maybe a colourist or a stylist that would be happy to do all colouring work as you are right it would be a silly thing to take them out and send them else where for them to come back and he new extensions lol could make more money as well I suppose?

It's a fab idea and something I've thought about myself and like you I hate colouring so good to hear what others have done.Good luck and keep us posted.

Yes was thinking of ordering as and when I need them to save on unused stock etc. honestly I take so long doing colours (just cause I'm not used to doing them). Will try and get someone in that wouldn't mind doing all the colours x

Thanks for the feedback guys! Do you reckon I should open with just my self working there to start with? And then get extra staff in when/if it gets busier?

And how would you go about promoting it??

:) x

Why don't you speak to a couple of mobile hairdressers and see if they have a portfolio.

Ask the one that you get on with best (and the one with the best work) see if they would be interested in working in the salon from time to time explain what your planning and between you I'm sure you'd be able to sort something out between you.

Been looking at doing a refreshers colouring course. Thinking of trying matrix. I don't want to be losing clients because my salon "don't do" colours, still aim it at hair extensions but give clients "special deals" when having colour and extensions together :)
