Hi,
I will soon be opening a nail salon and have been researching salon ventilation systems, does anybody know of a uk based company that specialise in this that's not too pricey please?

Ambermist/Dha Labs Ltd will soon be distributing a Salon Ventilation System that includes a overhead desk top extraction for nail dust, with Real Activated Carbon Filters, for Fumes and Odours and a Desk/Floor Standing Unit that contains over 3kg of Real Activated Carbon for Fumes, Odours and some Viruses including some strains of flue, and a HEPA filter to EN-1822-1 (0.3 micron size particles to 99.99%) (Dust, pollen, allergens etc).
These units will give real protection to your customers and, in particular, you and your staff and more than meet the regulations in Coshh SR 13.
The desk top unit, has an intergrall LED light and will retail at around £165.00 and the larger unit will retail at around £400. We may also offer payment plans subject to terms and conditions if the units are purchased together, as is recommended. The expected launch date is mid February, full details, brochures online video etc will be available then or before and if possible they will be on show at professional beauty excel at the end of February.

Thankyou for your response this sounds perfect as we are planning to open our salon in around 6-8 weeks. How much in advance would I need to order and when will you know anymore about payment plans?

Hi, do you sell any built in vents?

Hi,
Take a look at the Ravair Ltd website.

Doug Schoon, leading Scientist in the nail and beauty industry only commented recently about the need for effective dust control as airborne dust from clients hands and nails, regardless of hand washing, could a more serious risk now and in the future. The Ravair Ltd Built in or on desk units is without doubt, at 23m/s downdraft, ( The minimum downdraft required by HSE SR13 regulations is 1m/s), the most powerful nail dust extractor on the market and will remove ALL Nail Dust down into the filters guaranteed or your money back, The unit is now being fitted with an Anti Viral Activated Carbon Filter at no extra charge. At only 11cm high it can fit in the desk or sit on it.

Just posted thisScientist and advisor to the beauty industry Doug Schoon has advised nail technicians to invest in proper source capture ventilation for the following reason:

"Pathogens ... take rides on dust particles that fly them all around the room for everyone to inhale. Dusts can carry pathogens, so if you don’t control nail filings/dust, you are not doing all you can to control potentially infectious pathogens.

“Invest wisely in ventilation; buy the best you can – and use it. Buy a quality ventilation unit designed for salons, not something made for living rooms or bedrooms."

While there is some evidence that HEPA rated dust filters can capture viruses floating on droplets smaller than 5 micrometers in the air, it is important to understand the context.

Source capture dust/vapour filters are designed to capture within a specific working zone. A vacuum cleaner won't suck up dust 2m metres away, for example. This means it is highly unlikely to capture all of a clients breath, coughs or sneezes.

To my knowledge, no source capture system manufacturer has either tested their products for virus control or explicitly states their effectiveness with regards to COVID-19.

Will they help? Probably. Should ever salon use one to breath air free of dust and vapours? Absolutely.

There are many other important things nail salons need to do to protect themselves first:
  • wear n95 / FFP2 mask that is from a trusted source. There are a lot of fake masks coming from China.
  • replace the mask after each client in case it has become contaminated. Learn how to remove safely.
  • clients should wear washable cotton masks or single / three ply medical masks
  • Nail Techs should wear nitrile gloves and either safety glasses or head visor
  • practice excellent sanitation and disinfection. Consider everything a client can touch from entry to exit. Control where they put their hands and don't allow mobile phone use.
  • Ensure they wash hands properly and they apply liquid sanitiser.
  • If they touch their face or any surface during the service, apply sanitiser on the hands again.
Hopefully by the time nail salons are open, a working protocol will have been issued.

Bear in mind that 10% to 12% of healthcare workers become infected, despite having PPE and being trained in it's use. The challenge for all of us will be to avoid infection by contact and maintaining sanitation standards long term, without lapse, until the threat no longer exists.

One other point. It is highly unlikely that salon insurance would provide cover if a salon client became infected. Check this with the insurance company.

If not, each client should probably sign a liability waver to ensure the salon is not held liable. Take professional legal advice.

If you are getting a bit confused with all this data, take a look at o2nailfan which offers the health and safety information you need for extractor fans including LEV reports and SR13 requirements .It also shows you different models for salons and mobiles. They all comply with UK health and safety and have LEV reports . Hope this helps

Hi lovlies

I just want to post my experience I've had with Ravair. They are a dust extraction company which a few styles of machines.

I've recently purchased the built in machine with the free carbon filter, under their 30 day money back guarantee. I was very impressed with this unit. The suction was so powerful. It's made of aluminium which is perfect when using acetone ect.
I have however sent it back, with no trouble, as I'm now ordering the new plastic version due to it going into a glass desk.

I found Ray so informative, clearly is passionate about his product, but the service he has provided has been outstanding.

I hope this helps anyone in their search, and I would recommend if you dont buy, definitely give him a call as you're researching.

Ravair, I dont know why but i put a post up 10 minutes ago and it's been removed. I just wanted to share what a good experience I had.

Your post has not been removed, just merged (see above) into the same thread that you had asked for assistance from said company ;)
