Shellac remover wraps, where am I going wrong?

I've had the training. in my experience the wraps are ineffective and often don't stick closed tight properly. what's wrong with finding an alternative that works?

Is it the nourishing remover you are using? Sometimes if I've put too much remover on the wrap it won't stick either. But I didn't have this when I used the dsolve so I think it's because the new remover is oily. Just try and not put as much on as the above poster said. :)

Yes I've had this too with the nourishing remover and also put it down to being oily as never had a problem with d-solve. But then when I try not to put as much on I find the shellac doesn't come off as well! Swings and roundabouts just got to find a way of getting the perfect amount!

So this afternoon I tried to remove CND Shellac wildfire that I applied to a client on 10 May and it wasn't lifting off the way it should.

I used the CND wraps saturated with nourishing remover.

Timed it for 8.5 mins from the first one and took that one off first - no joy.

I'm pressing down, then giving it a good rub before twisting from side to side, then pulling off.

I use the SIT method - Sarurate, In place, Tight.

Don't understand why this is happening. It's happened to me with fedora. Yet a lighter colour has come off easier and so has Brisa Lite.

What can I do to help? I've had shellac training.

Thanks in advance.

Ps I have another removal at 4pm today and an now dreading it.

Shellac that has been on for more than two weeks takes longer to remove. Shellac that has not been Solar Oiled every day as per the aftercare advice, will take longer to remove. Shellac that has had 3 coats of colour or two top coats will also take longer to soften and remove. You have to be the judge and also go by the service information on your CRC to remember exactly what you did.

When I have a Shellac client who I'm not sure of how well they have cared for their manicure ... And it is easy to see if they have or not ... I wrap for the full 10 minutes and if it doesn't look as if it is lifting off easily, I just remove the wrap and then use a pad saturated with Nourishing Remover and give it a rub after loosening it a little first with a wooden manicure stick. I do not scrape just run lightly over the colour and you will find that it flakes off quite well ... Then rub with the pad and it should come clean quite quickly.

Personally I'd use the vamoos 100 times better than the remover wraps x

Absolutely nothing. I use Magis and am very happy with them. I may look at using the actual CND ones again, but was put off using them at my training when I just couldn't get it nice and tight enough.

I'm the same just find them really fiddly. I have to admit I have even attempted to use them in months. I use the cotton and foil method but I've just got the vamoos pads to try. The way I see it is I'm wrapping I'm not soaking so I don't see a problem with it. Might give the actual CND wraps a try again though as I agree they do look more professional with the branding etc.

Xx

I've got two batches of them (bought one batch as a deal at the show) just sitting there, so I will give them a go so that they don't end up a waste of money. I will take them to my BLS training next week and see if I apply them any better.

I've tried the Cnd ones and I find them fiddly.

I prefer using cotton wool soaked in nourishing remover & foil.

Are the vamoos ones in the white and orange boxes? If they work for you, then great but i always end up covered in the adhesive and it takes time putting the pad on the foil in the first place. I only got them because I sometimes struggle with putting the remover wraps on my dominant hand and they were on offer at the show... but I'd rather just ask my mum to put the CND ones on me.

There's nothing wrong with trying alternatives, but try not to write a good product off before you've found your feet with it. When I first used them I thought I was putting them on the way shown and was getting really frustrated. Then I tried them the other way and, hey presto! I'd only been putting them on the wrong way *angel*

I also like that the CND ones are branded, which sets me apart from the other salons in my area... and allows me to charge more ;)

Thanks geeg, the client at 4pm proved easier to remove the shellac, even though it didn't just lift off. It did lift off the at the free edge where there was a good tight contact and I wrapped it nice a tight - client said she could feel her fingers pulsing from how snug it was.

I'll let clients know that unless they SolarOil as directed, it will take longer to remove.

Will keep trying.

Quick update: I've changed a few things on myself...

1) thinner base coat application
2) tried happyfeet's suggestion of remove & pep as I go
3) tried Divine by Design's way of wrapping with foil

All of which has resulted in cleaner and faster removal!

Timed 15 mins from first wrap with nourishing remover, massaged, twisted and off it came.

I've only every had brisa lite smoothing gel remove the way it does in the video on myself and blsg + grapefruit sparkle on my mum. That is until today...

The blsg + shellac wildfire + glitter + TWO top coats have slid clean off my nail with no pushing today. I'm over the moon and can see light at the end of this tunnel.

I'm going to try again on the other hand (right, so my not so able left hand doing the work) with CND wraps, as that's what I use on clients.

My nails look so healthy! They've never all been this length at once.

Would it be okay to SolarOil them up for about an hour for conditioning, then washing with soap, scrub fresh and reapply my shellac?

Thanks to all you lovely geeks who have provided loads of great advice. Xx

Tried with the CND wraps and didn't remove as well as the other hand, however, that could be something to do with wrapping them with my not so great left hand.

Nails are freshly Brisa Lited and plain at the mo, may go for some Vinylux later :)

I'm so pleased for you that you are making positive changes and seeing the difference, it feels good doesn't it? :) Just be a little mindful about how tight you go, as the fingers pulsating is a sign that they are a little too tight. It's harder wrapping on someone else as you can't feel it, but just checking at the beginning as I'm sure you did, will mean you can loosen off if you use something like Magis.
