Hi
I did a test cutting on my own hair which is naturally a base 3/4 and has had several quasi colors on it, all dark. I used powder bleach with 9% for almost 2hrs... the hair was caramel/ginger by the end of it.

I am wondering - is it actually possibly to get my color to a light/medium blonde and if so how long will it take and how would you do it???????

PS
I know bleaching takes you through the colors from brown, red, orange, yellow etc

It's possible from a 2 to light with bleach but only for strong virgin hair otherwise like u found, caramel xoxo

Again I know I harp on about this but if you apply lower strength, for 45 min take off dry and then re apply still using low strength you should get a better colour but because you've used several quasi's they have built up to become permanent .

Bluerinse, your 'harping' is getting through as I did wonder if I should try again with a lower peroxide and keep applying until color is reached or hair cutting is dissolved!

Would a color stripper/remover work? Or would that damage the hair too much to then bleach?

Ginger is defo not my color though, perhaps I will try and refrain from coloring my hair for a year or so I can start going lighter!

Well I'd try a mild bleach bath first with low strength to break the colour then full head back to back fouls with 3% x

Did you apply heat to the strand test? You know you need to heat it up.

Chances are you will get a better result with 20 vol. I can shift just about anything with it.

Persianista - erm... left the cutting in a warm room... is that enough?

Bluerinse - Back to back foils... all hair foiled? ie same as a full head color?

Appreciate your help, gonna give it another go, with 20vol and two applications if necessary with more heat. See what happens then, hopefully it wont be ginger /caramel Tomme - it really doesnt suit me!!!!

If I like it, will do bleach bath first on my hair!

Thanks again!

No, you have to add heat to a strand test. Your head is a lot warmer than a room.
Thats why it did nothing.

When you do your test piece, I always find placing it on top of a kettle that has recently been boiled helps, then you can get on with your next client, just remember to put a timer on!xx
