Hi Geeks!

hope you can help me! iv just had the dreaded txt....

it reads 'hey mate hope ur ok, just to let you know i had a bath last night and my nails fell off'

mortified I replied 'what do you mean they fell off' I only did them 6 days ago.
she replied 'they came away dead easy at the cuticle and snapped off' (snapped off or came off in the bath??) which I asked. and her reply was 'they all snapped away at the ends then when i got in the bath the whole nail came off like a false one'. but the end of the message said 'its not a problem'.... well it would be for me if id have paid for them!

she then went on to say that her friend that came with her to have a set of nails done hers 'fell off' too. considering she only txt me yesterday saying she had broken one off and it was her fault.

It sounds like a completely made up situation I know and I work in customer service so I know exactly what people can be like, however... I only did my NSI P&W course in march so im thinking is it something im doing???

so I text my friend who has had her nails on 6 weeks and she only had two breakages which I fixed. My sister in law has herson still (from two weeks ago) and shes queen of accidents, my hairdresser friend still has hers on and shes a nail biter.

When I suggested calling the manufacturer she sent me an essay, somewhere along the lines off....'I wasnt trying upset you im sure you would rather know than me lie and pretend their fine, its not your fault'.

This is the customer that came to my home salon with her kids who ran in the living room, screamed at the dog, pulled his ears then jumped on my cream fabric settee with there wellies on.

What oh what do i do???

I shake my head at her stupidity but really...could it be me? :(

A bad rep travels quicker than a good one!!! and im only just starting out!!xxx

Hi

I think this is a classic case of them trying it on. I get the impression that they thought you would say, oh have a refund or I'll do them again etc etc...

I am sure you did a good job and you know that yourself. Nails do not 'come off in the bath' they have to be forced off, even poorly applied ones (which they weren't) do not come off in the bath without help. Poorly applied nails tend to lift or break at the free edge then are picked and pulled off.

You also mentioned your other clients are happy! Chalk it up as experience and carry on doing what your doing......

hi laurensparkles,

i'm just starting out too, and i had a post up a few weeks back with similar issues to you, and i was worried tht if i didnt re-do their nails they would spread the dreaded "bad word" around then all of a sudden the last few weeks my good clients who look after their nails and have no problems to blame on ME have spread the "good word" so fast i am getting my appointment book nearly full for the four days i work :D i've only been renting my table just over a month (mobile for a month previously) so keep going and you'll soon gain clients who look after their nails and deserve your treatments and those nightmare clients who want something for nothing will be a minority :)

good luck and dont let them pu you off
xx

Hi laurensparkles,

I really wouldn't worry about this client having a damaging effect on your reputation, as bloomingnails says even badly applied enhancements wouldn't just fall off in the bath and the fact that she was so quick to say it wasn't your fault makes me think she knows it was hers! Your other clients are obviously happy with your work and I'm sure they'll tell their friends!

Also I have to say I'm not sure I would want that client to book back in after the way her children behaved in your house! :suprised:

x

The only thing I would say is cast your mind back and make sure that her children did not disrupt you so much that you may have forgotten a vital step in your procedure .. it can happen, and it has happened to all of us at least once . ... if you are sure that you have done everything as usual and that normally you have no great number of complaints, then I think she is trying it on.

Don't let it get to you too much .. we have all had this from a client or two (or more) over the years. A person has to have a real beef, to spend their energy bad mouthing another person or their business. Most folks understand what is going on when they hear bad stories. The more happy clients you have, and it sounds as if you do .. the more your good reputation will spread to the right people.

some may think I'm out of line here but how rude allowing your kids to run riot in your nail tech's home salon!, you wouldn't allow your kids to run amok in a shop based salon so what makes her think it's acceptable to do it in your home?!!

I never took my daughter with me when I used to have l&p's done by my home based nail tech as i thought it way too inconsiderate.

I'd be tempted to ask her to leave her kids at home next time, say something like your dog is traumatised by their previous visit and is currently on the waiting list for an appointment with that Cesar dog whisperer bloke...

rant over.

Awww what a horrible experience for u but don't let it knock your confidence. Like everyone says she is trying it on. Nails just don't fall off. You should say to her if she wants to pop in you can take a look at them to check for damage to her natural nail plate saying that you will be able to tell if they just drpped off. See how quick she is to back track. To be honest I would not want her as a client and if she did rebooked again I would just say you have just renewed your insurance and their new guidelines don't allow you for having children at the salon so tell her to leave her little cherubs at home. Good luck but don't be bullied
