I started The 17 Day Diet on Monday and today (5th day) I have lost
4 lbs already. I will tell you abit about it. It is written by Dr Mike Moreno from the States and this is what he says.

A simple plan that targets both belly fat and visceral fat and produces fast results that last!

Unlike many diet programs that starve you down to size, Dr Mike Moreno's 17 Day Diet relies on proven methods to help you take weight off and keep it off for good, whether you've got 10 or 100 pounds to lose. His program adjusts your body metabolically so that you burn fat day in and day out. The program is structured around four 17 day cycles.

ACCELERATE - the rapid weight loss portion, which helps flush sugar and fat storage from your system

ACTIVATE - the metabolic restart portion, with alternating low and high calorie days to help shed body fat.

ACHIEVE - a phase that involves learning to control portions and introducing new fitness routines

ARRIVE - a combination of the first three cycles to keep good habits up for good. On weekends, enjoy your favourite foods!

Each cycle changes your calorie count and the food that you are eating. The variation that Dr Mike calls "body confusion" keeps your metabolism guessing; this means that you can expect big changes in the first 17 days alone! This is not a diet that relies on a tiny list of approved foods, grueling exercise routines, or unrealistic calorie counts that leave you hungry and unfulfilled.

On day 5 I have to say my skin is glowing and I feel that I have more energy. I have really stuck to it.

Thought I would share this with you and I know that it may not suit everyone. I will also mention that I have tried Weight Watchers and Slimming World. I need to lose 1 stone. Cant believe I have lost 4lbs from Monday though!

For the first 17 days this is what the book says:

Lean Proteins

Here's where you'll be getting a lot of your fat burning power. Eat ALL YOU WANT of the following proteins. They're freebies. The 17 Day Diet is purposely high in protein because it stimulates the reduction of body fat.

Fish

Salmon, canned or fresh
Sole
Flounder
Catfish
Tilapia (not sure what this is)
Canned light tuna (in water)

I tend to stick with the Salmon and Sole.

Poultry

Chicken breasts
Turkey breasts
Ground turkey (lean)
Eggs (2 eggs = 1 serving)
Egg Whites (4 egg whites = 1 serving)

Cleansing Vegetables

Eat ALL YOU WANT from the following list

Cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli, sprouts, asparagus, spinach, tomatoes, onions, artichokes, carrots, peppers, celery, cucumber, garlic, green beans, green leafy veg, turnip, leeks, kale, lettuce all varieties, mushrooms, scallions, watercress.

Low Sugar Fruit - 2 servings daily

Apples, berries all types, grapefruit, oranges, peaches, pears, plums, prunes, red graps, prickly pear cactus.

Probiotic foods - 2 servings daily

Yogurt, any type, including greek-style, sugar-free fruit flavoured, plain and low-fat, Yakult (small 50 calorie bottle).

Friendly fats: 1 to 2 tablespoons daily (olive oil, Flaxseed oil)

Condiments

Condiments and seasonings are allowed in moderation: salsa, lowcarb marinara sauce, lite soy sauce, low carb ketchup, fat free sour cream, sugar free jams and jellies, veg cooking spray, fat free cheeses (ie parmesan), fat free salad dressing, salt, pepper, vinegar, mustard, herbs and spices.

There are 17 sample menus in the book, but I stick to my own recipes. To give veg a great taste add garlic and seasonings. I would cook the veg and the in a separate pan heat a little olive oil and fry some garlic and chillies and then toss the cooked veg into pan and add soy sauce.

REMEMBER

This is only for 17 days. After the first 17 days if you reach your target weight you can move straight to phase 4 and skip the other two. If you still need to lose more weight, the second 17 days introduces more foods for example, Shellfish, Lean cuts of meat (sirlion steak, beef, pork chops, lamb, veal) and some natural starches (eg barley, brown rice, basmati rice, coucous, oat bran. Legumes (eg beans, lentils peas etc) Starchy veg (eg potato, sweet potato)

It worth giving the first 17 days a go to see how you get on. I am really enjoying it. The other thing is you need to drink 8 glasses of water a day, but you can add lemon or lime if you want and tea and coffee are allowed, although they urge you to drink green tea, but you dont have to.

Hope this helps x

thank you so much for that, it looks quite similar to atkins which I have to say is the diet that seems to suit me the best, i definately gain weight with too many carbs.
Tilapia is snapper, and it is quite a meaty fish...really nice done on the barbeque with onions and peppers in foil lol.

May well give this a go as it looks as if i could maintain it within a working day too...so thank you :)

Wow hun this looks like a fab diet and totally do-able no mad fancy meal prep (happyfeet + recipes = disaster). Lovely choice of veg etc. Mmmmmmm Mr Happyfeet may like the sound of this! Thanks for posting hun!

I dont know much about the Atkins diet, but I have read that the 17 day diet is much healthier than Atkins. With Atkins you were allowed to eat a lot more fatty foods and from what I know, I don't think you were allowed Carbs on the Atkins. For the first 17 days of this diet there are no carbs, but after 17 days carbs are introduced. Apparantly with the 17 day diet, depending on how much weight you are when you start, you might expect to lose up to 10 - 12 pounds in the first 17 days. The diet is designed to produce quick results, not because it starves you down to size, but because its carefully designed balance of food and exercise adjusts your body metabolically so that you burn fat, day in and day out. Also, important: the weight-reduction portion of this diet is limited to just 17 days at a time so that you aren't demoralized by the thought of endless months of dieting. The 17 day diet keeps your body and metabolism guessing. With each 17 day cycle you are changing your calorie count and the foods you eat. By varying these things, you prevent your body from adapting and you never get bored!

I myself had a fullness above my stomach which made me feel sluggish and uncomfortable. On day 5 (today) that feeling has completely gone!

I am giving you all this information because it took my book 2 weeks to arrive and just in case anyone is going on holiday or has weight to shift quickly for something, this will give you a start. I have quoted most of this directly from the book.

Today is the start of week 2 for me. I weighed myself this morning and am so pleased to report I have LOST 7LBS!! With regards food, I have followed the plan, but I have to say I did have have a few glasses of wine over the weekend.

I have edited this just to let you know what I had to eat today.

Breakfast: 1 low fat yogurt and a pear, coffee

Lunch: 2 egg omlette filled with softened spring onion, a little red chilli and chicken. To the omlette mixture I added some tumeric and cayenne pepper.

Tea

1 apple

Dinner: Chicken Breast and steamed shredded cabbage, green beans and brocolli. After steaming, toss in a separate pan with a little olive oil and garlic.

Yogurt

Coffee

If I am hungry this evening I will cook tomatoes in a little olive oil and more garlic (optional) and to this I again add tumeric and cayenne pepper. This is very comforting and takes away any hunger pangs. This can also be eaten through the day or even blended into a lovely mug of soup.

If anyone else is trying or already on this plan it would be good to know how you are doing or maybe pick up more tips on what you are eating.

I came across the 17 day diet a while ago - and then I lost it! I'm getting on a bit now, and my weight has piled on over the past few years and is causing me lots of health problems. My will power has never been good around food, I tend to be an emotional eater. But I've never been obese before. I've been overweight but never obese - and I really, really don't like it. I don't like myself at all and I don't buy into all that 'loving myself no matter what' BS that's all the rage now. I work in a sedentary job and it's uncomfortable being fat - even sitting down.

I was particularly depressed today about how I look and feel and feeling quite helpless and hopeless really. I don't know how I got this forum on my PC at work because I wasn't searching for anything diet related - but somehow it came up so I emailed the link to my home email so I could take a look at it at leisure.

I've now downloaded the book on Kindle and I'm going to do it. I've read all your comments here and and I'm determined I'm going to lose this weight and start living instead of lugging myself around like a slug!

Things happen for a reason - and this forum appeared just when I needed it most. So thanks for all your posts here and I hope to be coming back to tell you how much I've lost.

Wish me luck.:wink2:

I am all for losing weight, but have issues regarding 'diets'.

I know everyone is different and we all lose weight in different ways, but my slight problem with this diet is that it is very similar to the Atkins diet (although I do see there are some differences).

Eating too much protein and little or no carbs may make you lose weight but it is also pretty unhealthy. The other problem with this diet is that although you are only meant to stay on the first section for 17 days, if people see that they have lost a substantial amount of weight (which they probably will) they may stay in section 1 to try and drop more weight at a quicker rate.

As said, I appreciate that we are all different, but as long as we have will-power and the want to lose weight, the best thing to do it eat healthily and exercise regularly (even if its 10-15 minutes a day-thats better than nothing). This will also mean that you can stick to it in the long term, as opposed to doing a diet-losing x amount of pounds /stones and then starting to eat as you did before and piling it all back on again.

xx

I'm half way through reading the book. I had hypnosis a couple of weeks ago which has really helped me. I wish I'd done it years ago.

Good Luck GoodGrace. I have to say this plan has changed how I eat. I always allow myself 1 day each week to have what I want and it works for me. I find it to be a very healthy way of eating and if you stick to it, it will work for you, and as you will read in the book, you will be allowed to introduce carbs as you go. Keep us up to date on how you get on x
