Trying to find my way back to LaLa Land
I am currently taking a 2 year ITEC Beauty Specialist course at Adult Ed and due to take my exams and hopefully qualify in June this year. I have done my five waxing case studies at collage under assesment with our tutor and many more assessments under supervision at collage. At home I have carried out 57 bikini waxes on 12 different people.

My problem is where does a bikini wax stop/start??.......Yesterday, I had a lady for the first time to perform a hot wax bikini treatment. She had already said when she came for her patch test that she had a problem and suffered from hirsutism so I thought I was fully prepared and made it my last treatment of the day to allow me plenty of time and to make it as relaxed and comfortable for us both as possible, but as I am still learning I was not prepared for the amount of hair, both covering the skin area, length and density (honestly, really really dense coverage I could not see flesh). I did not panic and was very reassuring to my client and did everything I could to preserve my client's modesty. I thought the only thing I can do is look relaxed and apprear to be taking everything in my stride but to be honest I did not know where to start for a minute. Afterwards, my client was very, very pleased and said it was the most thorough and painless treatment she had ever had but it took me well over an hour - rediculous I know. She did not want her legs wax but is now so pleased she coming back for that in 9 days time. My problem was, there was no start or finish to her bikini and leg, and the hair was literally everywhere and straight and thick, about 2inches long. In the end I started from the top of her thigh and cleared away up to about an inch margin inside her knicker line going between her legs removing all the hair there on the inside of her thighs, but graduating down to the smile line of the cheeks of her bottom. I did not go inside the knicker line between her legs only just up to the knicker line. I really could not see flesh so felt I was best to be really careful. I did not attempt to wax her cheeks either, but is that part of a bikini wax ? - it isn't at collage but then everyone we get at collage has the bare min to wax anyway, but those I do at home always have alot more but never on this scale. I have never wax cheeks on anyone. Am I suppose to in a bikini if it is necessary??

I cut the hair well before I attempted to wax and used oil as a base after cleansing before apply the new generation wax. I did not cause any bruising at all, no blood spots and only really minimal redness. When we finished she said it was brilliant and she was so pleased as before all therapists have only ever taken a strip away with warm wax at the side of her knickers and never gone any further or done more.

Did I do wrong or was this correct? Is this a bikini wax or not and if not what am I ment to wax in a situation like this as it was really hard to define a cut off line. I know if I ask ask at collage the reply will be you should have referred her to her doctor when you saw this but the lady is a nurse, on no medication and has no contra-indications or medical conditions at all, and this is not contra-indicated, so in the real working world that is not a satisfactory answer. WHAT DO YOU EXPERIENCED WAXERS WAX IN CASES LIKE THIS PLEASE. Nothing like this ever happens in collage it is alway very standard and basic and everyone I have ever treated at collage is a regular waxer anyway. This lady has not waxed for years bless her and I can see why as she said she felt too embarressed but it was now impacting on her life. Is this an acceptable bikini wax or did I go to far??? She has asked to come back every four weeks so hopefully it won't be so bad next time and I am guessing that regardless I need to keep to the same pattern now anyway.

Could anyone offer advice please. xxxx

There's nothing that beats getting thrown in at the deep end hey! Well done you sound like you did a fab job!
If someone asks me for bikini line wax all i will do is take the hair off that sticks out of the sides of the knickers. If they want an extended one then I will take off everything underneath.
If hair is travelling down the leg then it's more time so I charge more money. Ive made the mistake of feeling sorry for them and doing it as part of the service but sorry i'm running a business. I would normally suggest they pay for a leg wax too. xxx

Thanks Kylieb, so just what is at the side of the knickers as you look straight down from above? Nothing between the legs for a bikini (so you don't go round the natural bend of the bikini line - does that make sense?).

Is your extended a different price and mentioned differently on a price life then and if they need waxing between the legs, do they already know or do you tell them during the treatment?

Sorry for all the questions, bit of a nightmare this does it happen often then??

When i do a bikini, i ask the client to put a tissue in their knickers and pull it to where they want it to go. I then remove everything from the top of the knickers down to the couch-if that makes sense. Also remove any hairs on the inside leg but no further down than a few inches unless they are really hairy and then i would suggest a leg wax.
Know what you mean about where does it start and end though.
I had a lady a couple of weeks ago who had booked in for 1/2 leg wax and bikini wax. When she arrived she said it was the top half of her leg she wanted done.
I, too couldn't tell where the bikini line ended and the leg hair began. Lucky for me she wanted her leg done at the same time. It took me about an hour and i was sweating-lol.
If she had just wanted a bikini then i would have have asked if she wanted a leg wax as well. If not then i would have just done a standard bikini-no more than 2 inches from the side of the knickers.
You did well so i wouldn't worry too much.

No I don't take nothing off between the legs for a bikini line wax. Just literally what you can see poking out at the sides.
I charge more for extended and do mention it on my price list.
I learnt the hard way. I charge £5 for a bikini wax and I am mobile. People would call me for a 'bikini wax' and i'd end up doing a bit more here and a bit more there as the client will say 'oh just a bit more off there' and before i knew it they had had an extended one done for a fiver, which I couldn't charge for because 'bikini wax' was what I had put on my price list.
I think they know what they want hun really. They will say I want underneath done too or some people just say they want the sides done.
Hope that helps and dont be sorry about asking questions...it's what this site is here for! xxx

Thanks Angelina, glad I am not the only one, I guess its experience and getting is straight in your head exactly what you are going to do before you start but you get thrown off track sometimes when your learning. I think I will just have to try to get the leg wax and bikini in sync now and then it won't be a problem with this client. (till the next client:eek:) xxx

£5 for a bikini wax!!!
That is a bit too low. How much do you charge for an eyebrow wax? You use a lot less wax for an eyebrow wax so your eyebrow waxes must be really cheap.
I charge £10 for a bikini wax.

Thanks Kylieb, I am going to sit down when I do my price list and state exactly what clients will recieve during each treatment, because like you say it is really easy for people to dictate what they want and your stuck then with a standard price for a bikini. Not that this lady did at all its just my inexperience and she seemed very happy but I now have to carry on with what I have done. I can only charge a student rate at the moment to cover costs but that was one of the hardest £3 I have ever earnt.

Thanks for your kind help and advice. xx

A bikini is generally everything outside the knicker line. You then advertise for other options-hollywood, brazilian, high leg bikin etc....
You obviously need extra training for things like hollywood though.

Thanks Angelina, that was what I was just thinking. For now I am going to ask if they want a bikini (what you can see outside) or a high leg bikini which we are shown at collage where they adjust their underware to where they want but still modest. I'll perfect that then move on to more training for intimate because at the rate I was going yesterday I would still have been going at midnight. Can laugh about it now though:lol: Good job my lady was patient because that has to go down as a record, over an hour for a bikini wax. xxx

£5 is just as I have described, the sides. No underneath. For extended I charge £10. 9/10 of my clients have it done at the same time as their leg wax as I dont come out for treatments under £20 xxx

I think you did really well, so hats off to you.

PRICING:Break it down into areas, so charge, and allow for time, accordingly. If the hair was thick, right down onto her thighs, then charge for a basic bikini and thigh and so on. Or, with a client who is a little out of the norm, work out how long that took you and set the price and write it on her card, so that you and she knows for each visit.

TIP:Work out how much you want to earn an hour, then divide that by the minute. That way, when you get something that isn't on your price list, you can just multiply the minutes that it took you by the cost per minute.

PROCEDURE: I would start removing from the lowest point upwards and be methodical......which it exactly what you did.

hi

ok im not sure how to explain this really - is a standard bikini just the sides or does it include the inside of the legs (underneath) like its sort of part of your leg and your bum (really cant explain where this part is - the place closest to where babies come out from) sorry :) if you's know where im talking about?

has anyone any tips on waxing this area as sometimes i find it hard to get pulling the strip as the legs are kind of in the way

I've always done a standard bikini as top of the knicker line to the couch as i already said.
If you are doing the right side of the bikini get your client to have their left leg straight and to put their right foot into the side of the left knee. Or, get them to drape their right leg over the side of the couch. I prefer the 1st method.
Hot wax is much better for a bikini wax as it's less painful and doesn't bruise.
If you are using strips then you need to make sure you give the skin a good stretch.
There are some tutorials on here for waxing which you might find useful.
