I am currently taking a 2 year ITEC Beauty Specialist course at Adult Ed and due to take my exams and hopefully qualify in June this year. I have done my five waxing case studies at collage under assesment with our tutor and many more assessments under supervision at collage. At home I have carried out 57 bikini waxes on 12 different people.
My problem is where does a bikini wax stop/start??.......Yesterday, I had a lady for the first time to perform a hot wax bikini treatment. She had already said when she came for her patch test that she had a problem and suffered from hirsutism so I thought I was fully prepared and made it my last treatment of the day to allow me plenty of time and to make it as relaxed and comfortable for us both as possible, but as I am still learning I was not prepared for the amount of hair, both covering the skin area, length and density (honestly, really really dense coverage I could not see flesh). I did not panic and was very reassuring to my client and did everything I could to preserve my client's modesty. I thought the only thing I can do is look relaxed and apprear to be taking everything in my stride but to be honest I did not know where to start for a minute. Afterwards, my client was very, very pleased and said it was the most thorough and painless treatment she had ever had but it took me well over an hour - rediculous I know. She did not want her legs wax but is now so pleased she coming back for that in 9 days time. My problem was, there was no start or finish to her bikini and leg, and the hair was literally everywhere and straight and thick, about 2inches long. In the end I started from the top of her thigh and cleared away up to about an inch margin inside her knicker line going between her legs removing all the hair there on the inside of her thighs, but graduating down to the smile line of the cheeks of her bottom. I did not go inside the knicker line between her legs only just up to the knicker line. I really could not see flesh so felt I was best to be really careful. I did not attempt to wax her cheeks either, but is that part of a bikini wax ? - it isn't at collage but then everyone we get at collage has the bare min to wax anyway, but those I do at home always have alot more but never on this scale. I have never wax cheeks on anyone. Am I suppose to in a bikini if it is necessary??
I cut the hair well before I attempted to wax and used oil as a base after cleansing before apply the new generation wax. I did not cause any bruising at all, no blood spots and only really minimal redness. When we finished she said it was brilliant and she was so pleased as before all therapists have only ever taken a strip away with warm wax at the side of her knickers and never gone any further or done more.
Did I do wrong or was this correct? Is this a bikini wax or not and if not what am I ment to wax in a situation like this as it was really hard to define a cut off line. I know if I ask ask at collage the reply will be you should have referred her to her doctor when you saw this but the lady is a nurse, on no medication and has no contra-indications or medical conditions at all, and this is not contra-indicated, so in the real working world that is not a satisfactory answer. WHAT DO YOU EXPERIENCED WAXERS WAX IN CASES LIKE THIS PLEASE. Nothing like this ever happens in collage it is alway very standard and basic and everyone I have ever treated at collage is a regular waxer anyway. This lady has not waxed for years bless her and I can see why as she said she felt too embarressed but it was now impacting on her life. Is this an acceptable bikini wax or did I go to far??? She has asked to come back every four weeks so hopefully it won't be so bad next time and I am guessing that regardless I need to keep to the same pattern now anyway.
Could anyone offer advice please. xxxx
