Hi all

New to the forum. I am a keen amateur nail fan who is currently a teacher full time. I'm about to go off on maternity and was thinking of starting to train in nails whilst I'm off. I know I'll be busy(!) but I was thinking a wee evening course might get me out of the house and keep me sane. I was also thinking if I like it and am good at it I could use it as an extra income stream when I go back to work (hopefully part time).
What is the best way to start? Should I enrol in a part time course at my local college and go from there or is there a 'better' way to start? Can anyone recommend courses in Scotland? Is this a realistic plan? Do you need to have an 'official' qualification like an nvq to start up? Sorry for all the questions and thanks for any advice.

The best way to start is called The Fingertips Centre 0131 3333180. They have a huge reputation in Scotland and are located in an easily accessible area. Plus they are the best people ever. You do not need any qualification to start ... Qualifying you is what they do. they train with the best products and the trainers are highly skilled. Good luck with it all and the new wee bairn.

Hi and welcome to the site.
There are a few excellent training providers in the UK mainly by the product companies, like CND, Harmony, EzFLow, Young Nails, and Entity to name a few.
HOWEVER, not all of them have Educators in Scotland ;)

Therefore I totally agree with geeg that the CND training at the Fingertips Centre will be the best option for you. Not only a state of the art training facility handy for most people in Central Scotland but World class Educators to boot! If you are further up In the North of Scotland they have fantastic Educators there too.

Go through the fingertips centre in Edinburgh - they're fab. Also have a look at nail harmony who are the creators of gelish x

Thanks guys will check them out

College is free in Scotland, so u guys would recommend going to the fingertip centre and paying for the course then going to a college ?

Absolutely no comparison between a college course and the Creative complete education ... and trust me, college does not work out FREE. You have all your products (which are in general not good quality) and assessments to pay for etc. Then you leave and pay again for decent products and better education. It is smart to just do it all Right From The Start.

CND course includes all kit of the highest quality products on the market in the price of the course plus dozens of other things that go along with the course (surprises) plus the most knowledgeable educators and most in depth education in the industry. It's a no brainer.

I was a bit taken aback by the price of the CND course at fingertips but I'm thinking its an investment and I'll get loads of kit with it. Also looks like it gives a good insight into the industry and business side of things. I think I'll be fine there as my husband runs a business but its still good to have background knowledge.

I would also like to offer a premium service so figure I will need premium training!! College would not be free for me anyway and I'd rather do the 2 week course in my holidays and be ready to start.
