right i dont have dandruff but i have psorisus and it really gets me down and always wondered what hair dressess are thinking when doing my hair and if your saying dandruff is minging then i have my answer i dont thing dandruff shoud be in the same category as nits after all is it not just dry skin. [/QUOTE]

A qualified hairdresser will know what psoriasis is, and would know as a professional that it cant be caught or harm anyone. Its amazing how common it is when you see lots of peoples hair! many people including myself get it on the scalp and a friend of mine has it all over the body.
Dont worry us hairdressers see hair and scalps every day and know the difference between a skin condition and something like nits dont be imbarrised as as we see clients all day long and dont bat an eyelid at a bit of flaky scalp! xxx

Oh my god,i know what you mean,id much rather clean hair,as you have to stand over them inhaling that grease and scalp smell, whilst standing there for hours putting your foils in.I always find when hairs far to greasy the products dont stick to the hair as well.I remember travelling in australia and working in the worst salon ever where people were so tight to pay a couple of xtra dollars to have their hair washed,so you just had to spray it done,i had to cut this woman whos hair was almost making me gag and she was dripping with sweat in the end i thought the only thing i could do was to hold my breath i dont know how i didnt pass out, what is wrong with clents sometimes!i had a client not so long ago come into the salon for a tint and highlites who the night before smothered her mamoth hair in olive oil, this made smoke come from my head asking her if next time she would make sure she didnt do this b4 she came, she couldnt quite understand why, sorry dont know what happened when on a rant then :)

I prefer to meche hair when it is not too clean as it is easy to handle. Colour/ bleach takes just the same.

To be honest, if a client came with dirty hair I wouldn't embarrass her.

Actually, I think that a client turning up with filthy hair is disrespectful.
I had a gent in last week that I had to shampoo because it was so disgusting. Apart from anything else, it's the smell.

I agree that the products are powerful enough for it to not make a difference, but in my opinion it's just not on to expect someone to handle filthy hair.

There are so many hair myths that I'm considering writing a leaflet about it ...

It's not usually the ladies that bother me with greasy hair.... because they don't usually let it get as bad as some of the older Men ....
I am not exaggerating when I say this ....any Barber will tell you it's rank ! and its stinks ... and you can tell that it simply never gets washed .... its an accumulation of old hair grease and dirt the type of build up even fairy liquid won't shift

It's at these times that I thank goodness for the barbers technique of scissor over comb ,
I stand well back and cut the hair without touching it ,
and if you dare to spray it down the stench will just knock you out !.. Ughh
a dab of olibas oil on a tissue down my front helps a bit

I have to wash all the scissors hands and combs with hot soapy anti bac
and wipe and sterilize all the trimmers and edgers afterwards just to get the grease and stench off them !...
and I am sorry if I offend anyone .... but this old greasy stench really makes me gag and it makes me feel dirty all day ... its gross ... It's put me off my lunch many a time and then hair and nose trimmers down those unclean ears Ughh

I tell these older Men to wash their hair and then to use the American crew
products on their comb overs ..... but they like the grease and don't want to change.

The gel thing with the younger men and the plaster dust is just annoying,
only because it has to be washed off before we can get our fingers through it Lol but most of the time the younger Fellas are very good and they will listen to you , and come with it washed next time ....
women are usually the same ..... I don't mind doing psoriasis or hair with dandruff .... I don't care
but what I don't like is when the scalp is lifting and it catches in my comb :(
It doesn't disgust me at all .... it just goes right through me.

I had a bloke in last week who'd had a real problem with uber dry scalp, so the last time I saw him I sent him off with a little bottle of sweet almond oil and some instructions ...
When he came in this time his head was plastered with oil and when I asked him what it was he said that it was the oil I'd given him! Now this was a perfectly intelligent and educated bloke, so why the f*** hadn't he listened? It was like cutting someone's hair who'd plastered it with vaseline! Mind you, at least it was clean under all of that stuff!
Like Minky says, it is gross. I sometimes use the old policeman's trick of Vick's up the nose ... :)

Unfortunately as mobile, clients do seem to think we will put up with all sorts of mingingness......dandruff, nits, rock solid gel!!! Things that they wouldn't dare go into a salon with. )

I can definately say that psorisus is not minging its a condition that I come across very often, and in some cases the clients hair is coming out with it, that is something that no one can help, expecially as its generally caused by stress, therefor I can assure you that neither myself or any other professional would put psorisus in that catagory. I'm sure you can appreciate that we all come across client with hygiene problems, when it is unneccesary. I'm sincerely sorry if my earlier comment offended you, as it was most defintely not mu intention:hug:

i had to do this womans hair the other day ,,and her hair ....omg it was full of sweat and grease and it STUNK!!.and she smelt like stale wee.but i guess if ur a hairdresser you have to expect these things.i just got on with it.

hi, some people really just dont wash their hair!!! ever!!

I done a wedding trial on a bride and her daughter who was a bridesmaid, went really well, went back 6 weeks later for the actually wedding, and neither of them had washed their hair since the trial!! wtf!!

i them had to wash and dry it just to get the grease out then put loads of product in to get it to set!! some people!!!

As with colour, i wash my hair every day and have never had any problem with colouring it, but if someone had really minging hair i would be tempted to wash and dry it first before colouring it!! and too right - charge them extra!!! its your time!!!

Personally if hair is hanging in grease, then it is hard to make the perfect fine weaves. However, I always like my clients to have unwashed hair as it is a pain in butt weaving fresh washed hair as it flies around. If doing a full head colour/bleach, the hair should not be washed that day as the scalp could be sensitive. I have to say if I was a client, I would never present myself minging.

totally agree with you there hun :)
