Thanks for the replies everyone. It's totally melting my head. Everybody else seems to be getting on great with it but I'm having nowt but problems.
So here is my application step by step:
1. Sanitise mine and clients hands
2. File nails to desired shape and length
3. Remove cuticle from nail plate with sparitual cuticlean
4. Cleanse nail of cuticle remover
5. Scrub each nail with scrubfresh until squeaky
6. Shake basecoat bottle and apply a thin, but not too thin coat to entire nail, capping edge
7. Cure in shellac uv lamp for 10 secs
8. Apply a thin coat of colour to entire nail, capping edges and cure for 2 mins
9. Apply second thin coat of colour, capping edges and curing for two mins
10. Apply topcoat, cap edges and cure for 2 mins.
11. Remove tacky layer with isopropyl alcohol
12. Give nails a quick file if needed and apply cuticle oil.
What am I doing wrong? Why can I not master something so simple? I've marketed this so heavily I don't want clients to be disappointed with my bad work.
Geeg, I get the shellac from sweet squared. Is it them I ring for advice? I'm not sure where my nearest educator would be. Sorry, I'm new to cnd so any help is appreciated.
Thanks guys. Your taking the time to help me really means a lot.

ARe you capping free edge too thickly? which results in chipping. Step 11, why are you filing after application? xx

Shake every bottle prior to use.

Don't file at end of service

These are the only 2 steps I do differently

Thin coats always xxxx

You will get it sorted cos the product is sensational xxxxxxx

Sparitual is not part of the shellac system of cuticle removing. Try a dry prep and do not use it. It is at least something that we do not use for the preparation for Shellac... maybe that is your culprit.

If you are filing after the application you are removing the cap which can cause the Shellac to lift from the free edge.
If you have filed them before application you shouldn't need to file at the end of the service

I also have one thing to add... everyone talks about capping. When I watch Kristina / Gigi Shellacing - they apply the brush and colour to the middle of the nail so the bulk of colour stays in the middle. You can then push the brush toward the cuticle line and drap it up and sweep over the free edge to the left and the same again to the right. This naturally CAPS the free edge without dipping back in and adding bulk or a 'lip' to the free edge.

To be honest CrystalTash I think you are adding too much bulk and of course Shellac does not like to be thick - THIN TO WIN.

Hope this helps and use CuticleAway to remove non living tissue - it's the most effective remover out there and it's not expensive!

I agree. CuticleAway is so cost effctive. I used to use another cuticle remover that cost x for a small tube. CuticleAway is only 50% more expensive for a bottle more than 10 the size.

It really does not get more simple or efficient than this .......

Remove the brush from the bottle using circular movements around the inside of the neck of the bottle as you pull it out (away from you), so as to remove any excess Shellac from the shaft of the brush which might flood it as you are working.

Place the brush in the centre of the nail keeping the hairs of the brush as parallel to the nail as possible and gently push the brush toward the eponychium and then glide the brush over and down one side of the nail to the free edge. As you reach the free edge, twist the brush slightly and flick the hairs along the first half of the edge toward the centre which will 'cap' it. Lift the brush and repeat on the opposite side of the nail, flicking the brush again along the first half of the edge toward the centre which will 'cap' it. Make your final stroke of the brush down the centre of the nail. In the manner described apply ONE THIN LAYER to each nail and free edge of all 5 nails of one hand. Cure for the recommended amount of time between each layer of Shellac.

This technique is used with every coat of Shellac you apply. Base, Colour and Top coat.

I think it must be something really simple thats causing you problems crystaltash. I dont really offer nail services anymore, but totally loved the idea of shellac. I purchased it, and LOVE it!!! Im way out of practise with nails, but my polishing was always ok, and I have not had any probs at all. My clients love it. Persevere, you will crack it xxx

How are you cleansing the nail of cuticle remover...?
What are you using..?

I couldn't agree more, I have relied on acrylics for many years as I have a nibble habit...terrible I know, although a good opening line when dealing with nail biters....I have now been using Shellac on my own nails for 6 months and its just brilliant. I can be very heavy handed and I can do back to back nail services all day and not a single problem with peeling, even cut through mine with a veg knife at the weekend and has not made any difference to my shellac, definitely no peeling or lifting. My nails look beautiful all the time and I even have to cut them down!
I have had one client recently that had problems with the shellac peeling and lifting she even said it just fell off....mmmmm! said it caused her nails to break!!
I just told her that maybe shellac is not for her as my very large client bank of Shellac users are extremely thrilled with it!

Just a thought, check your bulbs in the lamps, I have just replaced mine as the thumbs were not curing properly and wiping clean off!!

Step 12. For what reason would you need to file? Once you have completed all the above steps you should have a perfect finish. You will almost certainly break the seal, although this alone would not cause peeling and chipping. Clients nails need to be smooth and not damaged else an uneven nail will cause an uneven finish, especially on the ends.

I work as a cleaner in the morning at the moment and wear shellac all the time and never have an issue (even when not wearing gloves). My hands are constantly in and out of water. The only time I have ever had an issue with it is if I haven't capped the free edge correctly and if I don't use my solar oil. By filing after application you are removing the capped edge.
