I think one of the biggest problem that I found through my own research is that the commercial landlords are getting too greedy. Most small businesses are closing down left, right and center in London due to rent increase by 50% or more. It's almost like they want to cleanse the small businesses out of the high streets and replace it with big corporate businesses like Costa, strabucks to name a few and of course all the supermarket express shops.
The govt should look into regulating the commercial landlord and put a cap on what they can demand from the tenant. like the new regulations for the private landlord they started in June 2019.
Rent is the biggest factor then comes all the red tapes like business rates and licenses. Honestly - Uk must seriously think about changing their business model and make it more small business friendly in my opinion.
