Dear Aunty Geeg. I have a new problem for you.

I have discovered, to my horror, that my wife is eating most of the Christmas sweets put out for the clients!! If she keeps going at the rate she is I will be spending more on Roses and Quality Street than we are getting in and she is going to expand in size too!!

As I have a habit of being a tad tactless, how can I tell her not to be such a porker??? :Scared::D

Dear Geeg,

My issue is not clients, it is our receptionists. They talk poorly abouy our shellac services, "they peel on everyone, our technicians are trying to waste your money, shellac is awful" are just things my clients have told me. They offer free redos without EVER talking to techs. They tell clients solar oil is not needed "its a monry scam, they want commission on it, it does not work. I am at my breaking point. I am shellac certified. Regulars last 2/3 weeks. I work for a chain salon and my manager refuses to punish or fire them. How can I tactfully step in and educate? What options do I have to stop people from ruining my and shellacs reputation. Receptionists are all 50+ with no training in the industry. All lack skills of professionalism. Help! Help! Help!

Oh wow! Poor you, I would never allow this. I would talk to them and give them a warning, if they don't listen I would probably find new staff. They are bringing your place down.

Can't wait I see what Gigi says to this! :)

If I owned the salon OR managed it, all three of them would have been gone the first time someone behaved unprofessionally. I however work for a chain salon and my manager has yet to "handle" the issue or to forward the problems on to his bosses. I miss private salons:sad:

i wonder if there is anything you could possibly do since you don't own or manage the place. it must be awful to work in a situation like that :(

if i worked out in a chain salon and my manager didn't want to listen i would try and contact the owners of the chain and talk to them. mind you i wouldn't want to get you in trouble. let's see what gigi has to say :)

So pleased I found this site. I shellaced a relative of the Sweets who told me about it:lol: It is amazing who you can meet in our line of work.

Dear auntie Geeg,

Sorry it's not about nails it's about lashes :-/. Most if my lash clients look after their lashes and have them topped up every 2 - 3 weeks however I have the odd one or two who hardly have any lashes on when I go to infil them. I have gone over what products they are using on their face, how they are looking after them etc and they insist they are following all my instructions.

Every time I go to do their infils I end up having to do a full set but only charging for an infil as I'm too scared to charge more in case they don't rebook, what shall I do?

I have plenty of clients who keep their lashes on so I don't think it's an issue with my application.

Thankyou xx

I think you have to toughen up a bit with these ones. Explain that you put so many lashes in for a FS and so many for an infil and any more than that number will be charged at full set price ( or fix an in between price.

With nails I have done just that for years. If a client returns every 2 weeks for maintenance I charge one price .. 3 week maintenance and the price goes up .. 4 weeks up again .. After that it is full set price they have to pay even if it is one day over the mark. They KNOW so they stick to the schedule.

Thanks Geeg, you're so right, I need a new pricing structure, will get onto it ASAP xxxx

Hi Kate ... this is really a bad situation and the problem is that your manager is not managing and there seems to be no 'team' culture or respect for colleagues in the salon. I can't tell you what your options are as I do not know how approachable your manager is. If he/she is approachable then I would have a serious talk about team building and a few lessons in professionalism for the staff.

I suppose my natural question is, WHY are these receptionists doing this? Is it a personal thing or have they all had bad experiences with Shellac?? Could you not offer to keep their nails Shellacked FOC or for a nominal fee, to convince them that what they are saying is first of all, wrong, and secondly disloyal to their colleague (you) and the salon that provides the money to put food in their mouths?! That is the route I would naturally myself go down if I were in your situation.

There is only one option when you face a situation like this one and that option is to talk things through and discuss together as a group if possible. There is some reason they are behaving like they are and only discussion will get to the bottom of it.

I expect this was my step daughter Catherine? She recently did a 6 week working tour in the US with a well known 'artiste' lol. She loves Shellac and thank goodness you are certified as believe me she is used to good Shellacking service from us. !! lol

Thank you Geeg,

It was your stepdaughter, she bragged so much about your skill, I HAD to find this site. My issue is I have shellaced two of the three, both picked it off within a week. They seem to think it should be like an acrylic nail. Both are nss clients usually. I will talk again with my manager. I feel they should be offered re-training or face termination as its causing rifts. They fight amongst themselves and harass technicians. It is irritating. I just want to :smack:.

Thanks Geeg and geeks:biggrin:

Funny how people pick at things ... we have the same challenges with enhanced nails too ... if they want to pick they will get it off. But it is usualy ex enhancement clients who are the culprits who pick and not your natural nail lovers. We only promote Shellac to this group in our salon so have very few pickers.

I confess that I have picked off a few sets of Shellac (usually when they are over due for a repaint ... and I can tell you it is not easy to do ... they have to be determined! lol

I hope you get your salon troubles sorted out .. I know how an atmosphere can ruin your work experience.

Thank you for looking after Cat so well while she was away ... and very happy that you found Salon Geek. xx Merry Christmas to you and yours. x

Hey, I'm a nail technician ... I'm not into the extrication of quality Street tins

Hey, I'm also a woman and have no sympathy for anyone who'd called me a porker! I think you may have deserved the new chapeau!! It'll look very festive over the holidays. Enjoy!
