Nikki May there are so many questions I'd ask you to try & work out what might be going wrong for you, I'll start with just a few.

Are you restricted with food when you feast (through intollerences etc)?

Aprox what would a normal days calorie intake be (lower, normal, higher than RDA)?

How are you consuming your allowance on fast days (spread out or all at once)?

I am gluten intolerant so restricted there, I eat around 2000 on my feast days I would say. On my fast days I don't eat through the day just one meal in the evening. I can't exercise at all so not sure if that makes a difference.

Well today's my first fast day and I can see this being a struggle...I don't usually have breakfast until around 10am but I was already thinking about food in the shower at 6am today lol!

Have got my menu all planned out and should be fairly busy today so fingers crossed that will keep me on track X

Morning Geeks, I survived another fast day

Looking forward to something to eat a bit later, but not decided what I'm going to have yet (can never eat too early in the morning even after a fast lol).

Nikki May, are you eating 'healthy' food most of the time or do you have 'junk food' too (that doesn't have gluten in it)?

I also think if your eating a similar amount every day then you may not be throwing your body off enough so try to vary your calorie intake as often as you can.

I don't exercise at all so that shouldn't make a difference.

I would recommend the carb nite solution over this 5:2 diet.
It's ultra low carb and high fat.
I don't eat in the day until around 12/1pm so I'm fasting for a good 16 hours minimum. I only have boiled water and lemon in a morning.
The author is D H Kiefer.
I don't know much about this. 5:2 but I can imagine it's not really sustainable for a long period of time whereas carb nite solution is. Also if anybody is into heavy weight training like myself you can then go into carb backloading.
Xx

But surely high fat isn't good for anyone?! And I don't mean on the weight side of it. I mean for health reasons!!! What about cholesterol etc?!

The 5/2 isn't a diet. It's a way of life. Keeps your body guessing! I know someone that's done it for a year, no exercise other than walking the dog as she can't and she's lost 4 1/2 stone without much effort! :) xxx

No it is :)
I had my blood pressure done recently and blood tests done to check if I had some underlying health issues (something to do with a rash in my leg)
Everything came back perfect.
It's not something everybody is willing to understand and I accept that. If you are willing too understand it though it will change your life. It has been known to cure a number off illnesses. A woman has also been cured if terminal cancer through not eating carbohydrates, this is because it can not feed if the glucose.
If you got the book or even read a couple of chapters online you would understand why everything doesn't work long term.
It's something I feel very strongly about and so do a lot of lifters in my community. It's becoming more known the high fat low carb lifestyle. In Sweden they have already changed the government guidelines. Xxx

BeautyNerds I'd recomend you go and read about the 5:2 diet before saying it's not sustainable, it is a life change & actually has scientific proof that it works & has health benefits too.

Our bodies have evolved from having to hunt for our food & not eating everyday (never mind 3 meals a day), to food being on tap & it seems that our bodies actually benefit from a bit of fasting.

I eat out most days LOL last week I had Indian, Greek and Italian, going for Italian today too. I do try and avoid GF alternatives as they have lots of fat and sugar so I don't have much bread or pasta, but I do love GF cookies. I'm going to stick at it for now as I really do like the fasts although I woke up today with a headache and dizzy so downed some wter and scoffed a cookie, cheese on toast and yoghurt and I'm feeling much better now. I wonder if my body is adjusting to the change as I am a serial yoyo dieter.

I'm sorry honey but for me low carb does not work so I find 5:2 more sustainable, there are tonnes of health benefits and it is also being tested on breast cancer patients as fasting makes your body go into repair mode and it is being recommended by GP in many instances now. I guess its about finding out which one works for you but I don't like the sound of fasting for 16 hours every day then restricting my carbs sounds like hard work for the rest of my life. But I do agree that fat does not make you fat, sugar does. X

You can do it, hunger comes in waves so just ride the wave and keep busy. x

This is it everybody is different.
What the government tells you to eat now is a load of rubbish in my eyes.
You don't have to fast for 16 hours that's just what I do. I have a really good diet. I also have a refeed night once a week so I can have carbs but lower in fat.
I do eat a lot if veg and meat, strawberries, cheese, protein shakes. It's depends on the way you life and as Kiefer says himself it's not a diet/ lifestyle for everybody. It can be hard work but the results are amazing!
I do think as a whole we over eat and we are not aware of good good choices. I can't believe they upped the prices on protein and supplements. With out being disrespectful a person that takes these in there diet is obviously looking after themselves. So other things should be upped like takeaways and sugary foods.

Thank you!

So far this morning I've just had a cup of coffee with 2 sweeteners and I'm so looking forward to my soup and carrot sticks at lunchtime.

I see what you mean about the waves, I had a couple of hours where I was fine and now all of a sudden I feel quite sick, but I'm going to have a big glass of water and try and hold out until 1pm before I have anything to eat X

I'm amazed at how much foidbyou can eat for 500 calories when you chose correctly. I now look at things with 300 calories and think god no that's 2 meals. X

I'm flaking now 😩! Feeling very sleepy and shaky and my brain is a bit foggy lol. On the upside, I've had 3 portions of fruit/veg already today and I'm really looking forward to my dinner! X

Rescheduled my fast for today and it's going better. Looking forward to my dinner now, though! Keep going, everyone!

I find a glass of hot water with PLJ (pure lemon juice) first thing on a Fast Day really helps suppress my appetite. I have even started drinking this every day, even the days I have breakfast.

Favourite meal on Fast Day for me is turkey meatballs and homemade tomato sauce if I have been really good I can even throw some pasta in with it and still come in under 500 calories!
