For those that know me, you will know the storey of my MIL and her nails.

The only thing I can get to stay put for a max of 2 weeks (just) is gel. This requires nail buffing & primer. Her nails are super dry, long but brittle. Iv given her all the aftercare and she refuses to listen.
Would Brisa Lite Removable Gel with Shellac on top be my answer?

Another question, is the Brisa Lite Base and Top Coat the same for the Smoothing Gel as it is for the Sculpting Gel?

Thank you
Base coat and top coat are the same for both gels. Try it and see ... that is the only way you will know. It's working for me and my nails sound similar but I do not wear them overly long .. I may be tempted now though! x

Thursday I applied my BL base coat, Smoothing Gel, 2 coats of Shellac and then Shellac top coat. By Saturday it cracked on my nail bed and I had chipping on 2 of my nails on the tips. I rarely have chipping when I do just Shellac. Am I doing something wrong? I was really excited about the BL Smoothing Gel and now I'm feeling a bit dissapointed.

I had just taken off my acrylics so I did apply it a little thicker but not really thick. I dunno, maybe that was my problem. But I felt after just a thin layer my nails weren't smooth at all and I needed a little more.

Something is not right. Sounds like you need the strength of the BL Sculpting gel. That would be my choice after acrylics have been removed. "horses for courses". Id love to see the photos rather than just hear about it. You say nothing about the length or what you did to cause the cracking or chipping.

Weak and bendy nails or too thick an application?
Did you apply perhaps while your nails were still swollen with the acetone from removal? Did you thoroughly cleanse before application and were the nails dry before application? Remember that the base coat contains quick release polymers that break down very quickly when in contact with acetone. You can remove and re-apply, but the nails have to be free of the acetone.

You need to know your products and how they work. We can all be a bit lax when we do our own nails and not wash our hands etc.

My nails were completely dry before applying the BL smoothing gel and I cleansed them with scrubfresh. I also washed my hands before starting any of my prep.

I didn't do anything to cause the crack. I was going to show somebody my nails and noticed a crack. I certainly didn't hit it, I would remember that.

My nails are short..just pass the free edge. The crack is on my nail plate. I would upload an image but you need a URL address. I do not have a photobucket account and don't want to get one for one photo.

I guess I will just have to play with it. I know I prepped my nails correctly.

Nails don't crack without force, hun. We know they do not. Many of us crack nails without realising it. Something cracked it .. it didn't do it on its own. Same with chips. They happen because of impact.

I'm disappointed for you because you are the first person to say they have seen any chipping at the free edge which is why I thought about the acetone. So it must be the condition of your nails or the fact that it was applied too thick.

BL is very strong and very retentive, but must be used on the right nails .. the sculpting gel is the stronger option if you need it. Many will.

I've had a look through this post and can't find the answer to this question (sorry if I've missed it!). When using clear tips with the Brisa Lite Sculpting Gel do we still just do PEP? I'm just wondering if the shine should be removed from the nail for the tip to adhere?

You still do PEP and no need to remove shine to apply the tip.

Im loving BL smoothing gel its really working for my thin bendy nails. But I've had a problem with BL sculpting on my own nail. I did one of my own nails last week just to try has I've never used a soak off gel before. I used a clear form, I've got new cnd bulbs and pepped really well. I've only been using Brisa hard gel for a year now and i don't have many Brisa clients so i usually just use clear tips and POW and they have been just rebalance clients ever since.
I think i know what my problem is, because i'm used to POW i struggle building a apex wall using white gel and silly me didn't think to add the clear sculpting gel to my shopping basket.

I did this nail and was really pleased has it was my very first sculpted gel nail. Next day i was peeling off some tape off a colour pop stick (yes i was using my nail has a tool ) lol and it caused a crack along my sidewall. I was able to 'peel' the whole white tip away from my free edge. It felt really rubbery. Have i made my nail too thin or could there be something else wrong with it having a rubber like feel?

Oh and i did this nail before i watched the cool blue trick so i had to file alot of white off to get it even :(

You filed the apex away. Very thin right at the breaking point. Try again and
make an enhancement. xx

Would the rubbery feel be normal on a overly thin nail?

Don't know; never done it but I would think it would be far more flexible if thin wouldn't you?

I started to read this feed from the begging but couldn't see the answer I have been looking for so apologies if you have to repeat.
I'm going to purchase my brisa lite smoothing and sculpting gel today off sweet squared website, what do I need to clean the brush in between using the different gels or do you just need to wipe them on the tissue?

Thank you x

This question has been answered. Page 8 post number 113.
Clean your brush off with a lint free wipe and some d.Sperse/IPA.
You do not have to clean every bit of gel from the brush ... It will still be a bit stiff but it will be fine stored away and when you want to use it again, soften by working some fresh gel into the brush and away you go.
Never use acetone to clean your gel brush ... You will ruin it.

Hi is there a list anywhere detailing which gel is recommended for which nail types? Obviously this is a new product and until we get to know it, it would be good to have some sort of reference to refer to.
Thanks

Yes there is but you are not going to get it until the EVENT. As I mentioned in an earlier post, there is a simple quiz for clients that is fun and will guide you.

Until then I think it is quite well explained in this thread as to which type of clients fall into the BL Smoothing gel category and which fall into the the BL Sculpting gel category.

If nails are very bendy and very weak then Smoothing is not enough. Simple. If nails are in good condition but just rough or ridged and need a bit of extra help then Smoothing gel is fine. Look at the free edge and make your determination from that ... if it is thin and papery or very flexible then those nails need more than just smoothing gel.

I haven't got my Brisa Lite yet but have been reading all threads with interest ready for when I do.

My question is regarding the Smoothing gel. When doing the Shellac training, it was recommended that we keep the total number of coats used, to a maximum of 5 to limit the thickness ensuring a lessened chance of lifting and chipping as it would be nice and thin.

So when it comes to using the smoothing Gel in addition to Shellac (excluding Shellac base coat as this wouldn't be used) and the client choosing a colour combination that perhaps uses 2 or 3 colour coats and/or Additives/Glitter, plus 1 or 2 Top coats to finish, is this going to be ok? As this 'could' be perhaps 7 coats in total in some instances. Or should we be steering our clients to simple colour choices only if wearing BL, to again limit the total number of coats on the nail.

Many thanks for starting this thread Geeg

Good Question and again, I would say it is a "suck it and see" scenario.

I would have thought that using so many coats of Shellac would be strong enough for most clients without any extra help but at this stage it is a try it and see. I think 7 coats would be quite excessive. But the smoothing gel is massively retentive on the right nails. If it were I, I would be staying away from any kind of 7 coat application.

Smoothing gel is not for every single client; they do not all need it .. only those that need the help and perhaps do not get the same wear out of Shellac as others. You all have CRC's and you all know who those clients are and what their wear history is.
