Are hand application tans a dying breed?

:green: You seem to get the grasp of my thought regarding these issues, I really I agree that having a poll for those people in favor of spray tanning and those for hands on. This will help us understand the nature of such methods and give us insights to which is better and preferred. This should help the thread.

When I did my training some years ago with St Tropez we were taught to use the cream only, the mousse was just for retail not to use in a treatment as it wasn't as dark, cant be blended down for people who need/want a lighter tan and it doesn't last anywhere near as long as the cream.

I think it's good to use both spray and hands on method if possible because as already mentioned some like the pampering feel of the hands on method. It's a full hour of exfoliation, moisturising, tanning then buffing. Some prefer the hands on method and when applied by a good therapist should be streak free...unless of course the client doesn't follow their aftercare:irked:

Then you have the spray tan, quick and easy for the client who just does not need, want nor have the time to have a hands on tan.We have clients who decline a tan because we dont do sprays and we have clients that will only come to a salon who uses the hands on method

I would love to be able to have room in the salon to have a spray tanning booth or even to be able to use a pop up tent but even though we have two rooms there just isn't the room.

Personally I think that the hands on method isn't as favoured as much as spray tanning but given the choice I would like to be able to offer both to suit all needs.
.

Totally agree! I think it is ideal to offer both spray tans and hands on method. I have had both and I love a spray tan if in a rush but I also find the hands on method a real pampering session too. I have only trained in spray tanning but will be looking into a good hands training too as I am sure there is a big market for that also x:)

The only thing i can say is that when we first took on Sudo spray tanning we still offered St Tropez manual treatment but no-one ever had that after even tho we would offer both. Most of clientale just wanted a quick spray and off :)

I have offered St Tropez lotion application for years. It was popular but nothing in comparison to Spray Tanning which I have been doing since May. The odd client still books in for the St Tropez lotion application as they have said they find the treatment more relaxing and feel like they are being pampered. On the other hand most have swapped to spray tans because they are quicker, cheaper, choice of colour and as its dries almost instantly they don't have that horrible tacky feeling after. I also have to say that colour wise the result is better and very even with spray tanning and results last equally as long (about a week). I use Tantrick and the from 8.5% - 18%. All popular.
