Hey peeps,

Back from meetings in Ireland with execs from CND where this was a top issue for both CND and S2. And I can tell you that there is indeed a light at the end of the tunnel. (see what I did there? :) )

All electronics have a probability to develop a fault. In fact, we have always budgeted an average of 3% pa for replacements and why there is a one year warranty. The past few months, we noticed this number more than triple which led to CND investigations with the manufacturers who identified a common component that has an increased risk of developing a fault within the first few weeks of use. Lets get this straight; the issue did not affect the vast majority of lamps, just more lamps than usual.

The real problem was that while the investigation was underway (which didn't start until AFTER the returns shot up), we were using our inventory for exchanges (which we always do). However because the returns tripled and we were replacing faults with products 3 times more likely to develop a fault, we went through our inventory freaking fast.

We are now awaiting fresh inventory that in en route and will be with us in the next couple of weeks which will return the fault level back down to the 3% we budget for. In fact, we are flying in thousands as soon as they arrive in CND's distribution centre (based on CND info, we should have them in the next 2-3 weeks). We were trying to get this shipment sent direct via air to us from the manufacturer, however our requests came in after our inventory had been loaded on a boat to CND distribution centre in Florida. So we're now just waiting on it to land so we can fly it out to us.

If your lamp develops a fault, contact us and we will do what we always do: our best to sort you out as soon as humanly possible. If it hasn't developed a fault, there is little reason to believe it will - however if it does, follow the above.

Hope this helps

Thank you for coming on to comment, I think lots of people will appreciate this.

My only concern is if there is a known fault, why havent all of the lamps been recalled? I understand not all of them may develop faults but if they are known to be part of a faulty batch, surely we shouldn't be leaving this to chance and crossing our fingers? If there is a risk, however small, we should not be subjected to that and should certainly not be subjecting our clients ti possible risks.

I very much appreciate that S2 and CND are in business and it may be costly to do a recall however, we are also trying to run businesses as well, many of us only offering Shellac and now are unable to earn money and possibly losing clients as we cannot honour appointments without the correct kit. It seems a real shame that many people are out of pocket, have had to wait a while for anyone to comment and have no resolution for their lost earnings or effect this will have on their businesses, especially after heavily investing into CND.

I do understand that in business things happen that noone can predict, but the way said situations are handled can be make or break to many. It's a shame that there are so many unhappy people because each day this goes on, gives us a bad name and encourages clients to look elsewhere possibly to other brands.

Is there any word from CND themselves or as the distributor, is it up to S2 to take the flak for the product?

Hey Lily,

Thanks for taking the time to relay your concerns.

If CND assessed that there was any kind of safety issue for you or your customer, we would immediately launch a full recall. This is not the case and why the majority of lamps are perfectly fine (this was one of the challenges in identifying what the issue was in a timely manner).

CND are working with us from a return/credit standpoint but really that is neither here nor there (nor would either of us let that hold us up). Our priority is to ensure that everyone using CND products have the correct lamp and that they can depend on it working as expected for them. Lamps are a large cost centre for us (we have always lost money on lamps) but that is not how we view them, we view them as investment centres. We know you depend on them and therefore we do. Hence why were doing everything we can to resolve this issue asap (and won't stop until it is).

HTHs!

Thank you steph41 I will keep that in mind

Mine too has broken last week - I think if we did a poll we would probably be pretty shocked by the true extent of breakdowns with these lamps over the last few years, faulty batch or not. I only got mine in July so luckily i am still under warranty but as the rest of you, it really doesn't help when I have spent a lot and done a lot to promote a Shellac pedicure promo for Jan and now can't do! As a new business in a extremely competitive marketplace, this does not help me to build a loyal client base and then I also end up having no confidence in support available from the CND/S2.

It does seem a bit convenient that S2 couldn't foresee that stock was getting worryingly low before sending the new order by sea (My last job included shipping and I know that sea v air cost is probably 5 times as expensive so I think this would have had something to do with it! Flights can arrive next day whereas Sea can take 6-8weeks depending on port)

Regardless of warranty, CND should be offering a replacement for any lamp with this reoccurring fault. It is well known by all to be an reoccuring issue and they should not be ignoring this due to the 1 year being up.

My Mini had a well known fault and BMW sorted it for me - well out of my warranty period because this is what the best companies do to be fair to their customers and continue to be well respected within their industry.

I am a CND girl, love their products. I had one lamp which one side of the uv lights stopped working, they replaced it no problems (was in warranty) I then bought a 2nd one as back up. But now I'm worried that if it stops working I won't be able to get it replaced as it's not used as much and will go out of warranty soon. So then it's a lot of money I have spent on something that will barely have been used but needed as a back up. What do we do then?

Can you take faulty lamps to an electrician? I know one who will probably be able to fix this for me as 2 of mine have broken in 5 days.

3% is huge!! For every 10,000 lamps sold, 300 are expected to have issues? and that's normal? I have lost all faith in CND and I have been slowing moving it out of my services offered for the past two months. If CND was really concerned with quality control it should be less than 0.05% out sourcing for higher profit margins and declining quality gets my goat every time.

This situation is anything but "Convenient" for our customers and for our team that have been working tirelessly to try and get lamps in to rectify the issue.

I spent time to honestly and openly explain the situation. If you feel there is some kooky conspiracy, please don't hesitate to email or PM me. If your lamp is faulty, we will replace it (or the distributor in your local market will). Always have, always will.

Sure. This is pretty much the norm for other lamps we have sold in the past.

BTW: The lights are outsourced because CND specialises in nail product technology. They are not electrical specialists. In fact, I don't know of any nail company that makes lamps direct.

I also shared that the lamps are an investment centre. There is no higher profit margin to save not outsourcing (or whatever). The CND lamps are incredible value (I have seen comparable lamps costing more than twice the CND lamp) and very complex.

I get your frustration, but as I have openly explained, this issue is complex and everyone is doing everything they can to remedy the situation for all affected professionals.

I have to say I do feel the lamps are good value for money. I was previously using a much cheaper system but the lamp was virtually the same price as the cnd one but was nowhere near the quality. It's a shame this has happened but i acknowledge it's not S2's fault. I guess taking the brunt of our frustration is part of the parcel of being distributor for CND.

I'm also surprised that you actually lose money on the lamps (not saying I don't believe you, I am just genuinely surprised). I guess I assumed that they cost a few quid to make and that they were a real money spinner. Shows how much I know!

I have the same problem, I currently don't use my lamp that much but I want to get my money's worth. I think they could at least let us know batch nos -
So we the consumer can make a decision as to what to do perhaps x

Money, I'm sure, is being made on the lamps. By 'losing money', I would take that as 'not making as much as we could'. Just my opinion. I seriously hope you ladies get a resolution soon xx

Reading this thread as mine started crackling smoked and I didn't wait to see if it caught fire I yanked the power this was yesterday with having only racked up 70 hours in total on the lamp.

Phoned S2 but as well out of warranty tough luck.

now with 50+ colours wall rack and Brisa lite gels & no lamp I'm very very upset no I won't be buying another having spent huge sums of money on training/travel/products over the years up to my masters :(

70 hours is not fit for purpose regardless of how long I've had it and just to feel even worse I'd purchased new bulbs in December from S2 and this was its first use with the new bulbs in (even though I'd only used 70 hours on my originals this was to make sure I was doing everything possible to give my clients the most best and complete service even though they are a small minority of my work )

feeling pretty gutted will be selling off my stock and closing my account.

The lamps can be repaired by a qualified electrician :)

But would this not then invalidate the warranty if you had one?

Out of interest... When was the last time anyone got a lamp? How long have they been out?

If the known fault can be fixed by an Electrician, it may be worth sharing exactly what the fault is if someone has got theirs successfully fixed.

Personally I am now scared to buy another lamp. I have not had my fingers burnt as I have one of the old ones (quick! find me some wood) but this has shaken my confidence for future purchases.

We have 3 lamps and the most recent one I bought was 1 year ago. 2 of ours have broken in the space of a week, one went bang and smoked the other had a bulb that broke and then wouldn't accept new bulbs.
I called sweet squared and I would have to send both back to be tested. One may still be in warranty but I personally don't know which lamps are which.
I can't really afford to wait for the new lamps, nor send off the broken ones only to be probably told that it is out of warranty and they can't fix it.

I need to make a living and I appreciate s2 aren't necessarily to blame but I will not let my clients down, sooo...I got a friend of a friend who is an electrician to take a look. Both lamps fixed in an hour and it cost me £20.

Tbh I was waiting to book my conversion with CND but was told lamps were out of stock but after finding this out to my shock I'm afraid to say I will be doing my conversion with gelish instead I'm so disappointed I have heard really good things about s2 and I couldn't wait but will be enquiring with gelish tomorrow instead...

It would definitely invalidate a warranty to have it repaired externally. However, if it's expired, it's certainly worth a shot! As long as it's tested and labelled as such, I can't see a problem. May be worth checking with insurers all the same?
