Hey geeks, we got two gorgeous kittens Thursday. The lady they came from told us they had been de flead and neither the kittens or any of her cats have fleas, anyway, that night at home we realised they were both running alive! We treated them with the bob Martin treatment Friday morning, and there still running alive! Our carpets and cushions/sofas are all covered in eggs and I keep finding fleas running over me! It's also not nice for the poor little kittens to be scratching and uncomfortable...can anyone suggest something?? :( xxx

You want a more reputable brand like Frontline hun. You may also now need to use a carpet spray to get the ones in transit, so to speak

We use frontline on our cats. It's great but a bit pricey. You put the drops on the back of the neck and give it a little rub. You might have to check if its suitable for kittens, but we normally get it from the vet, though i think pet shops do it too.

At the same time as de-fleaing the cats, you're going to have to wash all of the cushions and get a spray to do the sofas and the carpets.

We used to have a persian who loved to roam and came back covered in fleas, so we would bath him in the sink and comb him through. I don't know if this is an option for you. If not, just combing would help i'm sure.

Your vet might be able to offer some more solutions. I hope you get it sorted soon for you and your poor kitties. Congratulations on extending the family though xx

Thankyou both! Where can I get the spray? I'm taking them to the vets this week just for a general check up so will ask his/her advice then, I've started on boil washes today lol, just makes you feel so cooty!! Xxx

Use the stuff the vets prescribe. You'll need to de-flea your carpets. Ask the vet for the industrial strength stuff. The products you can buy from the supermarket are much weaker although they might be harmful to kittens!

Frontline is the best one I've used. As said before you'll have to spray all your carpets and sofa etc. Then wait a couple weeks and do it again. They are a pain to get rid of, it may need a few goes of spraying to deflea the house. Good luck.

Just got some frontline, just wondering if it's safe to put that on them considering I used the bob Martin one only a couple days ago, I don't want to harm them, got a flea comb also xxx

Use the comb every day to make sure you are getting eggs before they hatch, get some spray and spray everywhere you can, carpets, cushions, bedding, mattress and then hoover. You also need to empty hoover and clean it every time you use xx

Always check with the vet before using strong chemicals on kittens.

The fleas aren't nice but they won't kill anyone.

I know there not harmful it's just horrible seeing them scratching so much, surely we all remember the nightmare of getting headlice as kids, they've got it all over, must be drivin them insane x

Ask your vet :) that's what they're there for

The Bob Martin products are awful. Some batches were reported to cause burns to the skin. They also don't get rid of the fleas!

Oh hun I feel so sorry for u. I was in that situation a couple of years ago and I had to chuck my sofa away in the end and spent over £100 on flea solution.
All I can suggest is asking the vet for the best solution for the kittens and using a flea comb on them daily. Also wash every removable cover and hoover every where and every corner the eggs get everywhere. Xx

There's a room spray... Maybe the vet has it... I lived abroad and the wee buggers can lie dormant for months, you spray EVERYTHING, walls, skirtings etc to about waist height then Hoover. Frontline only kills the breeding cycle not the live ones.

I get all my flea and wormer stuff from PET MEDS so much cheaper cutting out the middle man and get it direct
6 pipettes for £18.90

And GENETRIX R.I.P Fleas for the house....kills everything for 12 months....spiders too :)

Confusion is a lifestyle - not a state of mind

We use advantage flea treatment its the same as advacate which vets use now as fleas getting use to frontline now so not working. Be careful as they kittens so always read instructions :)

Indorex flea spray for the house and advantage or advocate for the cats, alot are now immune to frontline, you will need to check the age of the kittens though as I'm not sure what age its suitable from.

Mine are 14, nearly 15 weeks now, I'm certain most treatments are safe from 8-10 weeks and older? Have just spent 2 hours combing them with the flea comb, much to their annoyance!! Found literally hundreds, I am just SO angry at the inconsiderate liar I brought them off, for telling me they (and all their other cats) had been treated, some people will say anything to get a sale!! Now my whole house is infested and my poor kitties are uncomfortable and agitated  grrrrr!!! Xxx

Frontline plus is safe for kittens and cats, advantage and advocate have 2 types, 1 for kittens and cats under 4kg and one for cats 4kg+... (Off the top of my memory...)

Looked into it last night as our kittens are 8 weeks so want to do it before they get fleas :)

Hopefully your kittens don't have them for too long!

Another good brand is Stronghold. I can't use Frontline on my female kitty.
