i had a client nick a full pot of calgel off my desk while i was making her a coffee and run out of the salon wtf!!!! some people are just wrong

Make sure you record her name so you don't ever forget who she is. Then put it down to experience - not worth the hassle in my opinion. Yes it is stealing but there is not a lot you can do about it right now. Hopefully you live in a small area and she will need your services again - then take the money up front and enjoy every second of it lol. Try not to let this put you off. You know you done a great set of nails and you know she will meet her match at some time. I also had similar happen to me a few years back after I applied nno's, the lady rang to say they were all cracked 3 weeks later. Of course I offered her a maintenance appointment and after I had finished she walked out. I was so silly standing with my mouth open. Wasn't sure whether to run after her etc and by the time I got myself together she was gone. On the upside - a couple of years later she made another appointment. I took down my price list and when she arrived I asked her for the money upfront which she blustered about saying how expensive I was but she paid. I had discreetly added on the cost of her previous maintenance so I got my money and I did not take her again. She was a horrible piece of work and a right chancer. Unfortunately there are some of them about but thank goodness not too many. ;)

Thanks everyone for the replies, unfortunatly I've no way in finding her as she was a new client, come to think of it she probably didnt give me her real name. This indeed is a lesson learned, Can you ask for payments up front???

You should of filled in a client consultation form/card before any service was performed.
But, as you said, she could of given you a false name intending to do exactly what she did.
What a complete nasty bitch. I'd be sure to let other salons in your area aware of her - name & decription.

I'm really mad for you hun, what cheek, how dare she, what a cow, makes you want to punch the woman!!!! Don't though! Obvioiusly.

Thankfully, in 7 years, I have never had this happen, but I would do as Geeg suggested and lock them in & call the police.

Tbh, there no reason why you could not call the police anyway & give a statement & full description of the bitch so that's she's on the police radar iykwim.

As for payment up front. I hjave never asked for it, but have been offered it a few times by new clients unsure if their nails would be dry etc afterwards to be grovelling about in their bags etc.
There's no reason why you couldn't put a notice up, asking for upfront payment for all new clients at their 1st appointment?

I am sorry to hear what happened to you hun, that just wrong:twisted:

I require 50% deposit upfront from new clients, nonrefundable if they dont turn up. Sometimes some people say they would just leave it once they hear that sentence. I cant book in diary full of randoms that dont bother to turn up. I am pretty fully booked weeks in advance and i dont need any nonsense like that.

I would not let her leave without the payment and agree with geeg re police.

Long time ago a had a girl in who said that she forgot her purse and will come back with the money later, as soon as i finished the treatment. As if she could not tell me earlier. She never returned for weeks! I then saw her in Tescos working so i came up to the checkout she was at and said that i forgot my purse and will bring the money later! Imagine her face! She quietly asked me not make a big deal about that and if i would like to wait 2 min while she runs to her locker to get the money since she completely forgot she was due! Seriously! That was a lesson.

Had a client who tried paying me with fake money once, luckily i have the habit of checking them after working for John Lewis):lick:

Had a client who paid me with cheque and their account was actually closed, but they were a regular so they returned and repaid promptly.

Hugs :D

oohh what a cow!!!:(

I hate to say it but i am not actually sure we can lock the door can we?
Isn't it seen as kidnap???
I know it sounds stupid but the law doesnt really protect the innocent does it. I know we could make a citizens arrest but i would look into the Locking the door scenario before actually doing it!!

Lets face it if she has the barefaced cheek to steal nails from you then she would lurrve the chance to sue and get some compensation for the distressing time she had when she was a 'prizoner' in your salon!!!!!

I know the world has gone mad!!!

oh yeah she's a F***ing belter. Glad you've posted this thread to give warning to others about this kind of thing. It's all right in hindsight saying what you should've done, but think i'd be that taken aback by it and angry i would've dealt with it all wrong lol Now thinking about it before such an event may happen to me, i'll deal with it accordingly. Good luck, i feel sick for you. Bet she's done that before somewhere else

I thought this as well?

Oh my goodness, well i would be ringing her up or going to her house, and telling her she has 1 hour to get back to the salon to pay for them or i am calling the police. Dont you dare let her get away with it......... if they are that bad (yeah right!) she'll be desperate for you to remove them.

carry out your threat, she has stolen those nails and thieving is an criminal offence!

I doubt very much that she gave her correct name , no or address you unfortunately have got to find her first. This doesnt seem like a spur of the moment thing , she probably goes around salon to salon doing this under different names!!
I would put this one down to experience.Make sure you change salon policy so new clients cant do this and protect yourself infuture. Isnt it viable to take payment before doing nails , i am sure thats what we were taught on my beauty course many moons ago!!!

well of course that is true, but i sincerely hope she did... what a nasty thing to do . some people are just horrid.

I'm afraid that how anyone else sees it I STILL WOULD HAVE DONE IT. I'm not very good at doing things just because someone says I SHOULD do it ... to be honest, this situation was to say the least a very awkward one. But NO ONE would get away with this with me ... right or wrong.
