That's interesting because sometimes I feel like I did it just for my parents as well. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the boost in self esteem I got when I graduated, but I don't enjoy it. I have the drive to be a high powered executive, but why not a high powered beauty industry executive? Perhaps that's why I floated through university (10 years UGH). It's about me now. Off the soapbox and off to dream about manis and pedis, although might not be able to sleep because I get super excited when my eyebrow threading booking comes around lol. WOO HOO

I'm was in exactly the same situation as you - I'm 31, went to uni, have worked in marketing for 10 years, MCIM, MCIPR etc, etc - and am just finishing my NVQ II in beauty therapy! I did my course intensively in small groups of no more than six with a really good trainer.

I'm going mobile in the summer and am now going through the process of setting up my business. I have no plans to give up the day job at this stage but I'm so excited about my new venture and where it may lead!

Go for it! Far from being too old I'm sure you'll find your business and marketing experience will pay dividends. Plus if I'd done this when I was 18 I wouldn't have had the funds or experience to set up my business exactly how I want and afford the products I want to use.

Good luck and I'd love to hear how you get on x

Ooh meant to say, I do plan to add other treatments to the standard NVQ ones. I'm looking at spray tanning, eyelash extensions and advanced waxing courses for later in the year.

If you have even an inkling that you may wish to do more than nails I'd do the NVQ. I really wasn't bothered about learning waxing to start with - but when I trained I found I really like it. And it's always good to have lots of strings to your bow! x

That was my thought exactly...I am my own marketing/pr consultant lol. Best of luck to you as well, would love to hear how it goes! x

What a brave decision to have made - well done!! I think a lot of people do things to please their parents and don;t really admit it to themselves - i'm certainly one of them!! I'm not as brave as you yet and am only going to be doing the nail stuff part time, alongside another job - my parents would go nuts (and I'm 28!!) . Good on you for taking the plunge - we should all be a little more selfish and live our lives for us sometimes!!! Good luck and I think that the CND route is a good one to take from all the support you get on here!!

Oh I'm not as brave as you may think...my parents live 4000 miles away, so they do not know anything. I'll tell them after the fact. How horrible is that? I mean, I know why they get upset, they want to make sure their children are a success (my sister is a very successful marketing consultant for an insurance company), but I would think they would be doubly proud if their child was a success and HAPPY and passionate as well. :wink2:
