Do you think professional brands should make product available through high street

I hope this client paid for her treatments before asking, maybe its me but I would feel extreemly cheeky asking and I seriously dont think I would feel right because its really taking advantage of your therapist. Surely when you buy products from the professionals you are also paying for their expertise. If I wanted to buy a professional product I would support my therapist and buy it from them.

I agree however this was a new client who had been bought a gift voucher for a different treatment and didn't realise we did Decleor.

And professional brands may not retail all their 'salon' only products.....however clients are so much more clued up now they generally know they can jump onto Ebay. Although clients that want to do that are not necessarily the clients you might want!

Woops, my mistake, i was sure Dermalogica said that professional retail products were stronger because they were prescribed and that was part of the reason they were salon only, but i may have got that wrong.

You're probably right regarding Dermalogica, I'm not sure as I haven't worked with/used them for years as I reacted to pretty much everything of theirs that went near my skin!!

I can only speak about Decleor products being sold in Boots etc as that's the range I am most au fait with, but the retail products of theirs that are being sold are generally those 'safe' for general use, such as cleansers for sensitive skins, moisturisers for dehydrated skins etc.

It is really interesting to hear all the comments.

It is always a pay off between exclusive (but not heard of) and mass market. Over the years many professional brands have gone more mass market.

I know for the foreseeable future Moor Spa are focusing on the Professional market. We are committing to the professional market by building a training room and developing some new professional only products. We develop products with our therapist customers, this way the final product is really good for salon use.

The brilliant thing about the professional market is that the therapist can take the time to explain why a product is so good to the client. With a range like ours based on moor therapy this makes a difference.

I think that's the best move for any skincare company. One of the key factors for me in choosing Decleor was that they had good training facilities, which are free, and that they have both retail products & professional only products to give a point of difference between home care & in-salon treatments. I've worked with companies in the past where all the products you use are available to buy and it took the uniqueness away from the treatment as in effect they could pretty much do the same thing at home!!
