Awww thanks everyone reading your threads has made me feel alot better about the dreaded dark varnish.

I have a a few clients in since opening up my rented room and the first couple I was really nervous bit slower than I should of been, had a few more in since and getting more confident now, at the beginning i was shaking lol.. i have tried to position my right hand better now too so this is helping alot and as most of you have said just going for it seems to help more than thinking about or doing it slower, noone has said that i have done a bad job yet lol

or there just being nice and not saying anything, if i was,nt happy id sure say something so hopefully by them not saying anthing its been ok,,, well i hope so anyway

anyway guys thanks so much for all your advice

well did the manicure and ended up painting the nails, but she wanted beige so 'phew!'.:)

got another booked in on Tuesday but she has NO nails so don't think she'll want any dark colours.

she's asked for advice on how to maintain her nails, has always bitten her nails, so she has enhancements put on to stop her doing that. at the moment she is enhancement free and wants a mini mani with advice thrown in.

which I rashly agreed to.

now thinking 'oh poop!'

Sorry to disagree I personally think painting is not a bonus. I always have my nails painted, when I have an manicure or a pedicure I would be gutted if the therapist didi not paint them.

Most salon offer quick file and polish, which is popular for dinner time clients.

Today we live in a material world were most women look up to celebrities and wags whom have there nails painted beautiful so this is a service that needs to be 100% correct.

Practice practice and more practice.

i too used to panic alittle, mostly about doing a french polish. But then someone said something to me that has stuck with me ever since. She said "its only polish, you can always tidy off any smudges" and now eveytime im polishing i think of this, and coz im not so nervous i do a much better job in the first place!:green:

so glad someone started this thread! I love doing french, i love doing light varnish, and i think i am good at both, but DARK!!!! thing is, I know that i can do it, but get so worked up about it that i panic....
It is just practice, and us newbees will get there in the end! like someone just said, it can be tidyed up.
I do agree that polish is an important part of the manicure, but do find myself pushing clients towards a french!
there have been a few thread on how to make a polish last longer (ie a uv gel over the top) but no-one seems to have reached a conclusion on what is best, or if it really works - anyone reading this thread know?
