First paying client, nervous!

Similar to me, i trained then worked in a spa for a year and then i worked in a salon for a year, had my kids and couldnt get hours to suit. I now work in A&E at the weekends and recently won the gelish gives back competition and my prize was basically all the training and kit i need to start a business so i thought id be mad not to give it a go. The dream is to eventually give up working weekends and do this when the kids are at school and in the evenings. Its so hard finding a job that works around being a mum and this would be perfect. HelloLovely i will be using the same system all through as i won all of it in the competition and ive also heard some gels dont work with some lamps etc and from what i can make out you are best to stick to the one system, i know nail harmony do a whole mani pedi range under the "all that jazz" section. Babybird54 have you posted any flyers? I have some but not delivered them yet so going to do that over the next couple of days. I only just made my FB page and have had nothing from that so far. I paid a small amount like you to promote a post which reached about 1000 people but nothing came of it. I think word of mouth will be the best for all of us. Find yourself a handful of social butterflies and they will all spread the word. Hopefully [emoji23] lol xx

Oh wow well done!! How did you enter that? I did a generic gel polish course as I was a bit keen and now wish I had done the proper gelish course, will prob do a conversion course at some point. Agree with the gel polish aspect, stick to one brand. I haven't done flyers yet but think I will do. What did you put on yours? Where are you based? X

Sorry should have written it better lol , i just meant the system for the general mani pedi's rather then the gel system. I also did a generic one babybird , Im looking at the OPI Gelcolor range for the gel sytem but have read loads of good reviews about Gelish - just really struggling to find somewhere that sells the gels and lamps as a kit?? Rather than trying to find them from all over the place !

I was looking at the little mini solar oils from sweetsquared , Laura Think they do them in a pack of 40 for the mini ones! x

Babybird54 and HelloLovely i had always done my own gelish so had bought some of their colours in the past and i got an email one day about this Gelish Gives Back comp so i thought id give it a go and enter so a few months later i was told i was a finalist, there were 30 finalists and then we had to promote ourself using social media and whoever had the most votes won lol. I didnt even have a facebook so i thought omg how will this be possible for me so, my brother in law has 16,000 twitter followers and he done all the hard work for me [emoji23] 5 out of the 30 finalists won. I went to essex to gelish HQ and trained with jazz smedley and jess brown for an intense 2 days and we were all given our kit there. This was in january. These courses are so expensive though!!! It would have took me a long time to pay for the 4 courses i done and all the kit i was given. It must have come to a couple of thousand.

1000 flyers cost me £20 from vista print, i just put the name of the business and the prices of the services and my contact details. Very simple. Will attach a pic. When i made them i hadnt thought about rockstar and havent put a price on for that but i will do that on my next set of flyers.

I am based in bishopton which is 5 mins from glasgow airport. What about you guys? What do uze charge for a gel polish?

Nail harmony do a kit that includes the lamp, im positive so check them! I will go have a look for you.

Ok i had a look at gelish kits for u there. Only the deluxe one has the lamp with it which is over £600 but includes everything you need and 12 colours of your choice xx

I know lol. Not sure how they pick people. The initial application was basically why do i think i should win and im quite good at doing written pieces lol. Guess i was very lucky.

I think that was the first since 2013. They might do it again so just keep an eye on scratch magazines insta and nail harmonys. Will go follow you now xx
